BYD e1 Parts

The BYD e1 is the F0 made electric, keeping that car's 2,340 mm wheelbase, 1,618 mm width and 165/60 R14 tyres while gaining a single 45 kW motor and a 32.2 kWh pack. It is the only e-series car BYD ever stopped with rear drums, so order rear brake parts as drum hardware with a cable hand brake, not calipers.

Symptom Finder: Known Weak Points

What you see or hearCheck first
Knocking from the front over bumps The strut top mounts, control arm bushings and anti-roll bar links. The front end carries about 200 kg more than on the petrol F0, so check these first, then order by OE number.
Car sits low or bottoms out when loaded The springs and dampers. Check for a broken coil or a leaking damper, and order e1 parts by OE number rather than F0 parts that look the same.
Hum or growl that rises with speed The wheel bearings. Lift each corner and check for play or roughness before ordering, and order the bearing for the correct axle.
Hand brake not holding or needing many clicks The rear drums, shoes and adjusters. Check shoe thickness and the adjusters inside the drum, then order the drum hardware as a set per axle.
Brake fluid loss or damp inside a rear wheel The rear wheel cylinders. A leaking cylinder soaks the shoes, so replace the cylinder and the shoes on that axle together.
ABS warning light on The wheel speed sensors and their wiring at each corner. Inspect for damage or dirt on the sensor, then order the sensor for that corner by OE number.
A headlamp bought for the car does not fit or match Halogen and LED headlamps were fitted to different trims. Check which the car has and match the lamp by OE number.

Most Replaced Parts on the e1

  1. Drums, shoes and brake hardwareThe rear axle stops on drums, so shoes, cylinders and drums are the regular items
  2. Control arms and bushingsPetrol car geometry carrying about 200 kg more, so bushings work harder
  3. Springs and top mountsSized for the heavier electric car, so match by OE number, not by F0 part
  4. Shock absorbers and strutsMacpherson struts at the front and dampers on a torsion beam at the back
  5. Wheel bearings and knucklesSmall 165/60 R14 wheels under a heavier car, so check bearings for play

About BYD e1 Parts

The BYD e1 is a small five-door, five-seat electric hatchback, launched in China in April 2019 as the first car in BYD's new e series. It is the petrol BYD F0 city car converted to battery power. It keeps the F0's 2,340 mm wheelbase and 1,618 mm width, and a single 45 kW motor drives the front wheels from a 32.2 kWh ternary lithium battery. There is no engine, so there are no spark plugs, engine oil filters or exhaust sensors to buy. The parts that matter are the running gear and the electric system: ventilated front discs, rear drums, MacPherson struts at the front and a torsion beam at the back. They carry about 200 kg more than on the petrol F0. Every part on this page is listed by its OE number, and matching that number to the one on the old part is the surest way to confirm a replacement fits.

What to know before buying BYD e1 parts

Start by making sure the car is an e1 and not the petrol F0 it was built from. Side on, the two look almost the same. The e1 has a closed front grille, a charging socket instead of a fuel filler and no exhaust. Its body is 3,465 mm long and 1,500 mm tall, against 3,460 mm and 1,465 mm for the F0, on the same 2,340 mm wheelbase and 1,618 mm width. The Seagull that later replaced the e1 is a different car on a different body, so its parts do not cross over.

The shared dimensions mean many chassis parts look alike, but they do not always interchange. The F0 weighs 870 kg and the e1 weighs 1,050 to 1,070 kg depending on the trim, so springs, dampers and top mounts in particular may differ even where the shape matches. Do not assume an F0 part suits the e1 because it looks the same. Match the OE number on the part you are replacing.

The brakes are split by axle. The front has ventilated discs with calipers and pads, and the rear has drums with shoes and wheel cylinders. Rear pads and discs are the wrong order for any e1. The car has ABS and electronic brake force distribution but no stability or traction control, so the wheel speed sensors serve the ABS alone.

The main thing that varies from car to car is equipment, and it follows the trim. The Advance and Yue trims have steel wheels and halogen headlamps. The Smart, Creation and Yao trims have alloy wheels and LED headlamps, and the Smart and Creation add front fog lamps. The later Smart-Comfort trim went back to steel wheels and halogen lamps as standard, with alloy wheels as an option, and added rear parking sensors. The Creation and Yao have a rear camera. Every trim runs 165/60 R14 tyres. So check the headlamp, the wheel and any sensor on the car itself before ordering, and order painted panels by the colour code on the car rather than by colour name.

No date splits the body. The e1 was never facelifted, and the later trim added equipment without changing panels, lamps or glass shapes. Order by trim and by OE number rather than by build date.

Before You Order: 7 Checks

  1. Confirm the car is an e1 and not a petrol F0: a charging socket instead of a fuel filler and no exhaust means an e1. Then order by the e1 listings.
  2. Match the OE number on the part you are replacing to the OE number on the listing before you order.
  3. Order rear brake parts as drum hardware, meaning shoes, wheel cylinders and drums, and keep discs, calipers and pads for the front axle.
  4. Check whether the headlamps are halogen or LED, and whether fog lamps are fitted, before ordering any lamp.
  5. Check whether the wheels are steel or alloy before ordering rims, trims or wheel nuts, and read 165/60 R14 on the sidewall before ordering tyres.
  6. Look for a rear camera or rear parking sensors on the car before ordering a rear bumper or its trim, and order each sensor by its OE number.
  7. Order painted panels by the colour code on the car rather than by colour name.

Generations and Facelifts

The e1's story starts with the BYD F0, a petrol city car launched on 2 September 2008 with a 1.0 litre three-cylinder engine. When BYD set up its e series of electric cars in 2019, the F0 body was brought back as the first model in that range, the e1. The steel shell, 2,340 mm wheelbase and 1,618 mm width carried over. The engine made way for a 45 kW front motor, a single-speed reduction gearbox and a 32.2 kWh ternary lithium battery with a 305 km rated range, which added roughly 200 kg to the car.

The e1 went on sale in April 2019 in five trims, from the Advance up to the Yao. The trims share a body, motor, battery and tyre size. They differ in wheels, headlamps, fog lamps, screens and the rear camera, which is why lamp and wheel parts have to be matched to the car in front of you.

On 16 October 2019 BYD added one more version for the 2020 model year, the Smart-Comfort, sold as the Youth edition. It added a touchscreen, keyless entry, tyre pressure monitoring and rear parking sensors. It kept halogen headlamps and steel wheels as standard, with alloy wheels as an option. Its kerb weight is listed at 1,050 kg against 1,070 kg for the 2019 trims. The body did not change, and the e1 had no facelift. Production ended in 2020.

The Seagull, launched later, took the e1's place as BYD's smallest electric hatchback. It is a new car on a new platform with a different body and battery, so none of its body or chassis parts suit an e1.

BYD e1 Parts: Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make sure a part fits my BYD e1?

Match the OE number. Every part on this site is listed under the OE number printed on the original part, and if the number on the part you are replacing matches the listing, the part fits. That check matters on the e1 because it looks almost identical to the petrol F0 it was built from, and parts that look the same can differ. If the old part is missing or its number cannot be read, send us a photo through the quote form and we will reply within 24 hours, usually sooner.

Is the e1 just an electric BYD F0? Will F0 parts fit?

The e1 is built on the F0 body. It shares the 2,340 mm wheelbase and 1,618 mm width, and it is 5 mm longer and 35 mm taller. It is also much heavier, at 1,050 to 1,070 kg against 870 kg for the F0, and everything to do with the engine, fuel and exhaust is gone. Some chassis parts look alike, but springs, dampers and mounts may be different parts. Never assume an F0 part fits because it looks the same. Order by the OE number on the part you are replacing.

Do Seagull parts fit the e1?

No. The Seagull later took the e1's place as BYD's smallest electric hatchback, but it is a new car on a new platform. Its body, suspension, battery and trim are all different, and nothing on the outside of the car is shared. Owners sometimes assume the newer car is an updated e1 because it sits in the same place in the range. It is not, so ignore Seagull listings when shopping for an e1 and match every part by OE number.

Does the BYD e1 have rear disc brakes?

No. Every e1 has ventilated discs at the front and drums at the rear. The rear axle uses brake shoes, wheel cylinders, springs, adjusters and the drums themselves, and the hand brake works through the rear drums. Rear pads, discs and calipers do not apply to this car. When the rear brakes need work, check shoe thickness and the wheel cylinders for leaks, and order the drum hardware for both sides of the axle so the car brakes evenly.

What tyre size does the e1 use, and is there a spare wheel?

Every e1 trim runs 165/60 R14 tyres front and rear. No trim has a spare wheel, so there is no spare or spare wheel carrier to replace. The wheels themselves vary by trim: some cars have steel wheels and others alloys. Read the size on the sidewall to confirm nothing non-standard has been fitted. Then check whether the rims are steel or alloy before ordering wheels, trims or wheel nuts.

My e1 has steel wheels and halogen lamps. Is it a base car?

Not always. The first Advance and Yue trims had steel wheels and halogen headlamps, and the Smart, Creation and Yao trims had alloys and LED headlamps. The Smart-Comfort, added for the 2020 model year, went back to steel wheels and halogen lamps as standard while adding a touchscreen, keyless entry and rear parking sensors. So the wheels and lamps do not tell you the trim. Check what is on the car itself before ordering lamps or wheels, then match by OE number.

Does the e1 need oil or filters?

It has no engine, so it needs no engine oil, oil filter, air filter, spark plugs or exhaust sensors. That leaves the parts every electric car still wears out: brake pads and discs at the front, shoes and drums at the rear, brake fluid, tyres, wiper blades, the cabin filter and the 12 V battery. The single-speed reduction gearbox also contains oil. For the heavier running gear, check the suspension and wheel bearings at each service, and order parts by OE number.

What battery does the e1 use? Is it a Blade battery?

No. The e1 uses a 32.2 kWh ternary lithium battery, a nickel, cobalt and manganese type, with a rated range of 305 km. The Blade battery uses a different lithium iron phosphate chemistry and belongs to later BYD models, including the Seagull. The e1 pack, its modules and its casing are specific to this car. For any battery or high-voltage part, match the OE number on the old part exactly, and ask us through the quote form if the label is unreadable.

Does the BYD e1 have stability control?

No. Every e1 has ABS and electronic brake force distribution, but none has stability control, traction control or brake assist. The ABS system relies on a wheel speed sensor at each corner, so an ABS warning light usually leads back to a sensor, its wiring or a damaged sensor ring. The car has a driver's front airbag only. When ordering ABS sensors or modulator parts, do not take them from a model fitted with stability control. Match the OE number on the old part.

Why do the springs, bushings and wheel bearings wear on this car?

The e1 carries about 200 kg more than the petrol F0 whose body and running gear it shares. It weighs 1,050 to 1,070 kg against 870 kg for the F0, and most of the difference is the battery under the floor. Springs, strut top mounts, control arm bushings and wheel bearings all take that extra load. Check them at every service instead of waiting for noise, and order replacements by the OE number, since e1 parts may differ from F0 parts that look identical.

Was the e1 ever facelifted? How do I tell a 2019 car from a 2020 car?

There was no facelift. The e1 went on sale in April 2019, and in October 2019 BYD added the Smart-Comfort trim for the 2020 model year. It brought new equipment but no new body, lamp or bumper shapes. Production ended in 2020. Because the body never changed, the model year matters less than the trim. Check the equipment the car actually has, such as its lamps, wheels, camera and sensors, then match each part by OE number.

Does the e1 have parking sensors or a rear camera?

It depends on the trim. The early Advance, Yue and Smart trims have neither. The Creation and Yao trims have a rear camera, and the Smart-Comfort, added for 2020, has rear parking sensors. If you are repairing the rear bumper, check whether the car has sensors or a camera before ordering, since holes, brackets and wiring can differ between bumpers. Order each sensor, bracket and camera by the OE number on the old part.

Safety Recalls Affecting This Model

No recall affects the BYD e1. Checks covered China's defect-recall registry, BYD's own campaign index and the Indian register, and the nearest action found was a software update to the telematics terminal on e5 and Song DM cars, issued 30 April 2021, with no part replaced and no e1 named. The e1 was never given an export badge, so no foreign register carries an entry for it either.

If you have been told otherwise, check that the car in question is genuinely this one and not being confused with a sibling. The e1's registration identity runs from BYD7001BEV to BYD7001BEV2, while a single added letter, BYD7001BEVA onward, belongs to the Seagull that replaced it. A recall reported against the wrong one of those two will not apply to the car in front of you, so confirm the code on the plate before treating any notice as relevant.
