BYD F0 Parts

The BYD F0 is a five-door, five-seat petrol city car built from 2008 to 2018 on one bodyshell throughout, powered by a 1.0L 68 hp three-cylinder engine, with manual or automated manual transmission. That single unchanging shell means dating the car by dimensions gets you nowhere, since every F0 shares the same figures. What actually forks between cars is the equipment fitted to them: steering can be mechanical, hydraulic or electronic assist, and ABS was supplied by three different manufacturers, or not fitted at all. Confirm what is actually on the car before ordering steering or ABS parts.

Symptom Finder: Known Weak Points

What you see or hearCheck first
Heavy steering and no pump to be found Steering assistance varies between F0s, and some cars were built without a pump. Confirm what the car has before ordering, then match the rack or pump by OE number.
Jerky gear changes or no drive on a car without a clutch pedal The automated manual's actuator, clutch wear and wiring. After clutch work the engagement point may need relearning, so check that before ordering an actuator.
Weak rear braking or a handbrake that pulls up too far The rear drums. Check shoe wear, the adjusters and the handbrake cable, and order shoes and wheel cylinders by the OE number on the old parts.
Starter turning slowly or not at all Start with the battery, its earth strap and the terminals. If they test sound, look at the starter motor next and order it by OE number.
ABS warning light on Only cars fitted with anti-lock brakes have one. Check the wheel speed sensors and their wiring first, since they sit exposed near the wheels.
Damp carpets or rust showing at the footwells Corrosion in the floor pan or sills. Inspect the structure underneath before ordering any cosmetic panel.
Engine warning light or rough running Spark plugs, ignition coils and the lambda sensor on the three-cylinder engine are the usual first checks. Order each by the OE number on the old part.

About BYD F0 Parts

The BYD F0 is a small five-door city car that BYD built from 2008 to 2015. It is 3,460 mm long on a 2,340 mm wheelbase and weighs around 870 kg. It drives its front wheels through a 998 cc three-cylinder petrol engine, the BYD371QA, rated at 50 kW and 90 Nm. From September 2013 an automated manual gearbox was offered alongside the five-speed manual. The body kept the same dimensions for the whole run. The facelift, shown in April 2014 and on sale in China from March 2015 as the 2015 model, changed the front end, updated the interior and made small changes at the rear, but most F0 parts still follow the car's equipment rather than its age. That equipment varied a good deal by trim and market, and base cars, including Chinese-market ones, were built without airbags or anti-lock brakes. For parts, it is a conventional small petrol car. Every part on this page is listed by its OE number, and that number on the old part is the surest check that a replacement fits.

What to know before buying BYD F0 parts

Start with the front of the car. The F0 kept one body from launch to the end of production: 3,460 mm long, 1,618 mm wide and 1,465 mm tall on a 2,340 mm wheelbase. A build date tells you little about most body parts, but the facelift, shown at the Beijing show in April 2014 and on sale in China from March 2015 as the 2015 model, changed the front styling, updated the interior and made small changes at the rear. Grilles, front bumpers, fog lamps, interior trim and rear parts should be matched to a pre-facelift or facelift car before you order. Some facelift cars also gained reversing sensors, so confirm each part by OE number.

The gearbox is the next split. Every F0 built before September 2013 had a five-speed manual. From then BYD also offered an automated manual, which keeps a manual-type gearbox and adds an actuator to work the clutch and the gear change. The actuator, its control unit and its wiring exist only on the automated cars. The quickest check is the clutch pedal: a car without one is an automated manual. Match any transmission part by OE number rather than assuming the two gearboxes share it.

Equipment is where F0s differ most. Specifications varied by market, and the basic car tested by Latin NCAP in 2016 had no airbags, no anti-lock brakes and no stability control. Look at what the car actually has before ordering airbags, seatbelt pretensioners, an ABS modulator or wheel speed sensors. Steering assistance also varies between cars, so check under the bonnet for a power steering pump and fluid reservoir before ordering steering parts.

Some things are the same on every car. There is one engine, the 998 cc BYD371QA three-cylinder, so engine parts need no engine-family check. The standard tyre size is 165/60 R14, on steel or alloy rims. The rear brakes are drums, so rear brake service means shoes, wheel cylinders and adjusters rather than pads and a caliper.

Finally, look under the car before buying cosmetic panels. On an F0 of this age, check the sills, the floor pan and the footwells for rust first, since a new panel adds little to a weak structure underneath. For painted panels, order by the colour code on the car rather than by colour name.

Before You Order: 7 Checks

  1. Read the build date on the identification plate and look at the car's styling before ordering a grille, front bumper, fog lamp, interior trim or rear part, since the facelift, on sale in China from March 2015, changed the front end and also brought interior updates and small rear changes.
  2. Automated manual cars, offered from September 2013, have no clutch pedal, so check for one before ordering gearbox or clutch parts.
  3. Look under the bonnet for a power steering pump and fluid reservoir before ordering steering parts.
  4. Check whether the car has airbags and anti-lock brakes before ordering restraint or ABS parts, since base cars, including Chinese-market ones, were built without them.
  5. Inspect the sills, floor pan and footwells for rust before spending on cosmetic panels.
  6. Read the tyre size on the sidewall and note whether the rims are steel or alloy before ordering wheels, caps or tyres.
  7. Match the OE number on the old part to the OE number on the listing before ordering anything.

Generations and Facelifts

The F0 was first shown as the BYD F1 at the Guangzhou Auto Show in late 2007 and was renamed F0 before it went on sale in 2008. It replaced the BYD Flyer as the brand's smallest car and sat below the F3 saloon. Its styling closely resembles the first Toyota Aygo, but it is a BYD with its own engine and parts, and Aygo parts should not be assumed to fit.

Launch cars used the 998 cc BYD371QA three-cylinder and a five-speed manual gearbox. The next change came in September 2013, when automated manual versions went on sale in China. BYD kept the body and dimensions unchanged, so that split matters only for the gearbox, clutch control and related wiring. From then the manual and the automated manual were sold side by side.

The only facelift was shown at the Beijing show in April 2014, and the updated car went on sale in China on 2 March 2015 as the 2015 model. It brought a new grille, front bumper and fog lamps, along with interior updates, small changes at the rear and reversing sensors on some trims. Front-end parts, interior trim and some rear parts therefore divide into pre-facelift and facelift parts. Production of the petrol F0 ended in 2015.

In 2019 BYD revived the car as the e1, an electric city car on the same 2,340 mm wheelbase, with a 45 kW motor and a 32.2 kWh battery. It shares the basic body but none of the petrol drivetrain, so check any e1 part against the F0 by OE number. The e1 ended in 2020, and the BYD Seagull later took its place as BYD's smallest car.

Before ordering front-end, interior or rear parts, read the build date on the identification plate and compare the car with the facelift styling.

BYD F0 Parts: Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make sure a part fits my BYD F0?

Match the OE number. Every part on this site is listed under the OE number printed on the original part, and if the number on the part you are replacing matches the listing, the part fits. On the F0 that check matters because the body barely changed while equipment varied from car to car, so two cars that look identical can need different parts. If the old part is missing or its number cannot be read, send a photo of it through the quote form and we will reply within 24 hours, usually sooner.

Which engine does the BYD F0 have?

Every F0 uses the BYD371QA, a 998 cc three-cylinder petrol engine rated at 50 kW and 90 Nm, driving the front wheels. No other engine was offered, so there is no engine family to check before ordering filters, ignition parts, gaskets or valvetrain parts. The engine is small and simple, but most cars are now many years old, so expect seals, sensors and ancillaries to come due together. Match each part by the OE number on the one you are replacing.

Is the F0 a manual or an automatic?

It can be either. The F0 launched with a five-speed manual only. In September 2013 BYD added automated manual versions, which use a manual-type gearbox with an actuator that operates the clutch and the gear change, rather than a torque converter. The two gearboxes were then sold side by side. A car with no clutch pedal is an automated manual. Actuator and control unit parts suit only those cars, so confirm the gearbox before ordering, then match each part by OE number.

What changed in the F0 facelift?

The F0 had one facelift. It was shown at the Beijing show in April 2014 and went on sale in China on 2 March 2015 as the 2015 model. It brought a new grille, front bumper and fog lamps, along with interior updates, small changes at the rear and reversing sensors on some trims. The body shell and its dimensions did not change. Before ordering front-end, interior or rear parts, read the build date on the identification plate and compare the car with the facelift styling, then match each part by the OE number on the old one.

Were some F0s built without airbags or ABS?

Yes. Specification varied by market, and the basic car tested by Latin NCAP in 2016 had no airbags, no anti-lock brakes and no stability control. It scored zero stars for adult occupant protection. Those cars left the factory that way. So do not assume an F0 has an airbag, a seatbelt pretensioner or an ABS modulator because another one does. Check what is fitted to the car in front of you, and order each part by the OE number on the unit you are replacing.

Does the BYD F0 have power steering?

Not every F0 does. Steering assistance varied between cars, and some were built with no power steering pump at all. Open the bonnet and look for a pump, a fluid reservoir and the pipes between them before ordering anything for the steering. If they are there, match the rack, pump and hoses by OE number. If they are not, order parts for an unassisted rack only, because a power steering part will not suit a car built without assistance.

What tyres and wheels does the F0 take?

The F0 runs 165/60 R14 tyres. Wheels were fitted in steel or alloy depending on the car, so check which the car has before ordering rims, centre caps or wheel trims. Read the size on the sidewall of the tyres already fitted as well, since an older car may have been given a different size by a previous owner. Then order tyres and wheels to match the original fitment, and replace tyres in pairs on each axle.

Does the F0 have rear drum brakes?

Yes. The front brakes are discs and the rear brakes are drums, with a cable-operated handbrake. Rear brake service on an F0 therefore means shoes, wheel cylinders, return springs and adjusters rather than pads and a caliper. Look behind the rear wheel before ordering to confirm the drum, then match the shoes and cylinders by the OE numbers on the parts you are removing. Order front pads and discs as a set for the axle.

Do BYD e1 parts fit the F0?

Some might, but never assume it. The BYD e1, launched in 2019, is an electric car that reused the F0's basic body on the same 2,340 mm wheelbase. It has a 45 kW motor and a 32.2 kWh battery in place of the F0's petrol engine and gearbox, so drivetrain, cooling and electrical parts differ, and body parts may have changed as well. Check that the OE number on the listing matches the number on the F0 part you are replacing before ordering.

Do Toyota Aygo parts fit the F0?

Do not rely on it. The F0's styling closely resembles the first Toyota Aygo, and the two cars look alike from a distance, but the F0 is built by BYD with its own engine and its own parts. Aygo panels, lamps and mechanical parts are not listed for the F0 and should not be assumed to fit. Order F0 parts by the OE number on the original part. If you cannot read it, send a photo through the quote form and we will reply within 24 hours, usually sooner.

Where does the F0 rust, and what should I check first?

Rust is the main thing to check on an ageing F0. Look at the sills, the side skirts, the floor pan at the footwells and the area around the fuel filler neck. Structural rust makes new cosmetic panels a poor use of money, so inspect the underside before anything else. If the structure is sound, order body panels by OE number and painted panels by the colour code on the car rather than by the colour name.

What should I replace at a routine F0 service?

The F0 is a conventional small petrol car, so a routine service covers engine oil, the oil filter, the air filter and the spark plugs, with the cabin filter where one is fitted. The three-cylinder engine is simple, but on a car of this age check the drive belt, the coolant hoses and the brake fluid as well. Automated manual cars may need the clutch engagement point relearned after clutch work. Order each part by the OE number on the one you are replacing.

Safety Recalls Affecting This Model

No campaign has ever been identified for the BYD F0. The steering column recall of January 2017 names the F3-R and F3DM only, so an F0 owner told there is an open steering recall on this car has been misinformed and should ask for the recall reference and check it against the F0's own registration, not the model name alone.

One point does need care rather than a recall. The base export specification for this car was built without airbags, anti-lock brakes or stability control. That is how the car left the factory, not a fault that developed afterwards, and no campaign exists to add any of the three. If you are ordering parts for a car built to that specification, order to match what is fitted, not to bring it up to a specification it never carried.
