About Pedals, Levers & Handles
Two very different families sit in this group. The first is the pedal box. An accelerator pedal on a current vehicle contains no cable at all: it is a position sensor, usually with two independent tracks so the control unit can cross check its own input, and a spring pack that provides the resistance your foot reads as feel. The brake pedal is mechanical where it matters, pivoting on a bracket bolted to the bulkhead and carrying a switch that lights the brake lamps and tells several systems the driver is braking. A clutch pedal, where fitted, adds its own assembly and switch. The second family is grab handles and assist grips, which look trivial and are not: each one is a load path, mounted into reinforced points in the pillar or the roof rail, and each has its own bracket. Both families fail in ways owners notice immediately, since these are the parts the car makes you touch.
What to know before buying Pedals, Levers & Handles parts
A pedal that has developed a flat spot or triggers a fault code needs only the pedal assembly. A door handle that has pulled loose usually needs its bracket rather than the handle. Order by the OE number, because pedal sensor connectors and bracket patterns differ between drivetrains.
Pedal parts include electronic accelerator pedals, accelerator pedal assemblies, brake pedal and bracket assemblies and brake pedal upper brackets. Clutch pedal assemblies and gear shift lever covers are listed too.
Handle parts cover front and rear door inner grab handle assemblies. Grab handle brackets are listed for each door and side. Tailgate grab handles, assist grip brackets and rear assist grip mounting brackets are also stocked.
Anything showing a price can be ordered straight away. Anything without one is quoted against the same factory number. The BYD group is covered most fully.
Before You Order: 6 Checks
- Have the fault code read before ordering a pedal, since a wiring or supply fault produces the same symptoms.
- Match the connector pin count on the accelerator pedal as well as the OE number.
- Check whether the brake pedal listing includes the bracket and the switch or the pedal arm alone.
- Grab handle brackets are handed and position specific. Confirm door, side and front or rear.
- Order fresh bushes and clips where the listing does not include them, since pedal box noise usually starts there.
- Confirm whether your vehicle has a clutch pedal at all before ordering an assembly.
What Changed and Why
Pedal design has followed the shift to electronic control and then to regenerative braking. Accelerator pedals are now dual track sensors so the control unit can detect a disagreement between its own inputs, which is why a single failing track produces a fault code and reduced power rather than an outright dead pedal. Brake systems increasingly blend friction and regeneration, so the pedal reports position and effort to a control unit that decides how much of each to use, and pedal feel is generated rather than purely hydraulic. Both changes make the pedal a diagnosable electronic component.
Pedals, Levers & Handles: Frequently Asked Questions
My accelerator has a flat spot. Is that the pedal?
It is a strong candidate, and it is easy to confirm. A dual track pedal sensor develops a worn or dirty patch on one track, and when the control unit sees the two tracks disagree it either flattens response through that part of the travel or drops the vehicle into reduced power. Have the codes read first, because a supply or wiring fault to the pedal presents identically and is far cheaper to fix. If the code points at the pedal sensor, the electronic accelerator pedal is a single bolt on part.
What is reduced power mode and why does a pedal cause it?
It is a protective state the control unit enters when it cannot trust its own inputs. The accelerator pedal reports position through two independent tracks precisely so a disagreement can be detected, and when they diverge beyond a threshold the safest assumption is that the pedal is lying, so the system limits torque rather than acting on a possibly false request. That is why a worn pedal sensor produces a dramatic symptom from a small part. Replacing the pedal and clearing the codes normally restores full response.
My brake lights are on all the time. Where do I look?
At the brake pedal switch and its stop. The switch sits against the pedal arm and is held by a small plunger, and when the rubber stop on the pedal or the bulkhead crumbles, the pedal rests a few millimetres lower than it should and the switch never releases. That is a very common and very cheap failure. Check the stop first, then the switch adjustment, then the switch itself. On some designs the switch is supplied with the brake pedal and bracket assembly listed here.
Is there a knock from my pedal box under braking?
Look at the pivot. Brake and clutch pedals rotate on a shaft running through the bracket, usually with plastic or metal bushes, and once those wear the pedal develops lateral play that you feel as a click or knock under load. It is worth catching early, because a worn pivot lets the pedal move out of line with the master cylinder pushrod. Bushes are sometimes available separately, and where they are not, the brake pedal and bracket assembly is the fix.
My grab handle came away from the pillar. What do I order?
Check the bracket, not the handle. Grab handles mount into a metal bracket or a reinforced point behind the trim, and the usual failure is a cracked bracket or a stripped fixing rather than a broken handle. This category lists assist grip brackets and grab handle brackets separately for each door and position, which is why the repair is usually inexpensive. Never refit a handle with longer screws into a damaged mounting, since a handle is a genuine load path when somebody uses it to pull themselves up.
Can I fit an accelerator pedal myself?
Yes, and it is one of the simplest electronic repairs on a car. The pedal assembly is held by two or three nuts on studs through the bulkhead or the pedal box, with a single connector at the top. Switch off, disconnect the twelve volt supply, unplug, unbolt, fit the new unit, torque the fasteners and reconnect. Budget half an hour. Some vehicles want the pedal position learned afterwards through a scan tool, so check before assuming the job ends at the last nut.
What do pedal and handle parts cost?
Grab handles, brackets, shift lever covers and pedal pads sit at the bottom of the range. Electronic accelerator pedals cost more because of the sensor inside them, and complete brake pedal and bracket assemblies more again, since they are structural welded parts carrying a switch. The live minimum and maximum are shown in the band at the top of this page. Diagnosing before ordering matters here, because a brake pedal stop and a pedal assembly are separated by a large multiple.
Do brake pedals feel different on an electric car?
They are generated rather than purely hydraulic on most current designs. The control unit blends regenerative braking from the motor with friction braking from the calipers, and the pedal reports position and effort so that the mix can change without the driver noticing. Pedal feel therefore comes partly from a simulator rather than directly from the fluid column. The practical consequence is that a pedal complaint on such a vehicle is a diagnostic job first, since the cause may sit in the control strategy rather than the mechanism.
Will an accelerator pedal from a similar model fit?
Only where the OE number and the connector agree. Pedals differ in mounting pattern, arm length, spring rate and, critically, in connector pin count and signal type between drivetrains and model years. A pedal that bolts on and plugs in but reports on a different scale will drive badly and log faults. Read the number from the old unit, count the pins, and match both. Where the reference brings back nothing, send it through the quote form so the factory catalogue is checked.
My selector lever cover is worn. Is that a separate part?
Yes, and it is one of the cheaper ways to make an interior look cared for again. The gear shift lever cover is the moulded surround or gaiter around the selector, and it takes hand contact, sunlight and cleaning products constantly, so it wears long before the selector mechanism does. It is listed here separately from the selector assembly. Check the colour name where one is given, and order clips with it, since the surround usually snaps into the console rather than screwing down.
Do I need a clutch pedal assembly on an electric vehicle?
No. Battery electric vehicles use a single speed reduction drive with no clutch, so there is no clutch pedal, no clutch switch and no assembly to replace. The clutch pedal assemblies listed here are for combustion and hybrid models within the catalogue that use a manual transmission. Confirm which drivetrain your vehicle has before ordering, since the pedal box layout differs between two and three pedal cars and the brake pedal reference changes with it.
The part I need shows no price. Can I still order it?
Yes. Pedal assemblies and grab handles vary with transmission type, steering side and interior colour, and the combinations that sell rarely are the ones without a figure. Send the number and say whether the car is left or right hand drive, because pedal boxes are not symmetrical. Where the accelerator pedal carries its position sensor as part of the assembly, the whole unit is the service part and the sensor cannot be bought alone. The listing will show which arrangement applies. If a brake light switch is involved, order that too, since it is cheap and often the real fault.
