BYD Dolphin Surf Parts

The BYD Dolphin Surf is a four-door electric hatchback, 3,990 mm long, with a single front motor rated 55 or 115 kW and a 43.2 kWh battery. It shares its floorpan with the BYD Seagull sold in China, but its body is longer and several tyre sizes, motor outputs and a battery capacity found on this car have never appeared on the Chinese version. When you order, match parts against this car's own length and tyre size, not the Seagull's, and confirm the specification against fitment data rather than the badge alone.

Symptom Finder: Known Weak Points

What you see or hearCheck first
Car pulls to one side or the front tyres wear unevenly The front lower control arms, their bushes and the wheel alignment. Kerb and pothole strikes are common on a small city car, so check the arms for bending before ordering, and order by side.
A replacement bumper will not line up with the wings or lamps It may be a bumper made for a longer version sold outside China, such as the 3,990 mm Dolphin Surf. The Chinese Seagull is 3,780 mm long, so go back to the OE number on the original bumper and order to that.
Parking sensor or camera warning after a light knock The sensors in the rear bumper and their brackets, and the camera parts. A bent bracket can trigger the warning by itself, so check it before replacing the sensor.
Rapid charging is slower than expected Confirm the battery first. The Seagull has a 30.08 kWh or 38.88 kWh pack, and charging figures published for other versions of the car do not apply, so a lower figure may be normal. Only then check the charging socket and its wiring.
Brake squeal, judder or grinding The pads and discs. Regenerative braking means the friction brakes do less work, so discs can corrode on a car used for short trips. Check the disc surface, then order discs and pads by OE number.
Parking brake warning, or the parking brake will not release The electronic parking brake at the rear. Check the rear caliper, its actuator and the wiring, and order the caliper by OE number and side.
Knock or clunk from the front over bumps The anti-roll bar links, control arm bushes and strut top mounts. Find the source with the car's weight on its wheels before ordering, then match each part by OE number.

Most Replaced Parts on the Dolphin Surf

  1. Front and rear bumper coversThe ends take parking knocks, and Dolphin Surf bumpers are longer than Seagull bumpers
  2. Front lower control armsFront arms and bushes take kerb and pothole strikes on a small city car
  3. Wings, bonnets and lidsLight front-end damage often reaches the wings and bonnet, so check both before ordering
  4. Brake discs and padsRegenerative braking reduces wear, but discs can corrode on a car used for short trips
  5. Windscreen and body glassWindscreen chips and cracked body glass, each matched to the car by OE number

About BYD Dolphin Surf Parts

The BYD Seagull is a small four-seat electric hatchback. It was launched in China in April 2023 and is built on BYD's e-Platform 3.0. A single 55 kW electric motor drives the front wheels, powered by a 30.08 kWh or 38.88 kWh battery. There is no engine oil, exhaust or engine sensor to service. The parts it goes through are the ones a city car collects: bumpers, wings, glass, brakes, tyres and front suspension. The Chinese car is 3,780 mm long on a 2,500 mm wheelbase. Outside China it is also sold as the Dolphin Surf, Dolphin Mini or Atto 1, and some of those versions are longer, so body parts at the front and rear can differ. Before you order, match the OE number on the old part to the listing.

What to know before buying BYD Dolphin Surf parts

The first job is to be sure which car you have. The Seagull as built and sold in China is 3,780 mm long, 1,715 mm wide and 1,540 mm tall, on a 2,500 mm wheelbase. Outside China the car is also sold as the Dolphin Surf, Dolphin Mini or Atto 1, and some of those versions are longer, up to 3,990 mm, on the same wheelbase. The larger BYD Dolphin, at 4,280 mm long, is a different car.

On the longer versions the extra length is in the overhangs, so most wrong orders involve bumpers, bumper brackets, grilles, valances and the trim around them. A Seagull bumper is made for a shorter car and will not line up on a Dolphin Surf. Some parts are shared between the two and others only look alike, so match every part by its OE number rather than by the badge or a photograph.

Check the battery before ordering battery, charging or motor parts. The Seagull has a 55 kW motor with a 30.08 kWh or 38.88 kWh battery, and these parts must suit the pack and motor fitted. Read the size on the tyre sidewall before ordering tyres, rims or wheel trims.

The Seagull has been updated several times, including revised bumpers in February 2025 and a lidar option in May 2026. For painted panels, order by the colour code on the car rather than by the colour name. If a listing is split by build date, read the build date on the identification plate before you order.

Before You Order: 7 Checks

  1. If you are not sure of the badge, measure the car. A Chinese Seagull is 3,780 mm long and a Dolphin Surf 3,990 mm, so confirm which you have before ordering bumpers or trim.
  2. Match the OE number on the part you are replacing to the OE number on the listing before you order.
  3. Read the tyre size on the sidewall before ordering tyres, rims or wheel trims.
  4. Before ordering battery or charging parts, check whether the car has the 30.08 kWh or the 38.88 kWh battery.
  5. The bumpers were revised in February 2025, so read the build date on the identification plate before ordering bumpers or bumper trim.
  6. Order painted panels by the colour code on the car rather than by colour name.
  7. Do not order parts listed for the larger BYD Dolphin, which is 4,280 mm long and a different car. Match the OE number instead.

Generations and Facelifts

The car started in China. BYD launched the Seagull on 27 April 2023 as a four-seat city car on e-Platform 3.0, with a 55 kW motor and a 30.08 kWh or 38.88 kWh battery. In China it gained a new colour in March 2024 and a 2025 model in August 2024. A facelift in February 2025 brought revised bumpers and BYD's God's Eye C driver-assistance system. On 11 May 2026 the 2026 model added a version with lidar, a 12.8-inch screen and interior changes, and the 3,780 mm body stayed the same.

Outside China it is also sold as the Dolphin Surf, Dolphin Mini or Atto 1 in some markets. The Dolphin Surf uses the same platform and 2,500 mm wheelbase but is 210 mm longer, so a Seagull bumper is the wrong length for it.

In July 2026 details were published of an all-new Seagull for China. It is a larger car, 4,205 mm long on a 2,650 mm wheelbase, with a 95 kW motor, and its parts will not fit the current car. Treat any part listed for the second-generation car as a separate fitment.

BYD Dolphin Surf Parts: Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make sure a part fits my Seagull?

Match the OE number. Every part on this page is listed under the OE number printed on the original part, and if the number on the part you are replacing matches the listing, the part fits. This matters on the Seagull because the same car is sold under several names and built to more than one length, so a part can look right and still be wrong. If the old part is missing or its number is unreadable, send the details through the quote form. We reply within 24 hours, usually sooner.

Is the Seagull the same car as the Dolphin Surf, Dolphin Mini or Atto 1?

They are closely related. The Seagull is the Chinese version, launched in April 2023, and outside China the car is also sold as the Dolphin Surf, Dolphin Mini or Atto 1. All share a 2,500 mm wheelbase, but they are not all the same length. The Seagull is 3,780 mm long and 1,540 mm tall, while the Dolphin Surf is 3,990 mm long and 1,590 mm tall, with different motors and batteries. Whether front and rear body parts fit depends on the version, not the name. Confirm each part by its OE number before you order.

Will a Seagull bumper fit a longer version such as the Dolphin Surf?

No. On the same wheelbase, the Dolphin Surf is 210 mm longer than the Chinese Seagull, and the extra length is in the front and rear overhangs, where the bumpers are. A Seagull bumper is shaped for the shorter car and will not line up with the wings, lamps or mounting points on a Dolphin Surf. The same applies to bumper brackets, grilles and lower trim. If you are unsure which car you have, measure it, then order the bumper and its fittings by the OE numbers on the old parts. The Seagull's own bumpers were revised in February 2025, so check the build date on the identification plate as well.

Is the Seagull the same as the BYD Dolphin?

No. The BYD Dolphin is a larger hatchback, 4,280 mm long, and the Seagull is a smaller four-seat car at 3,780 mm. Both cars use e-Platform 3.0, and the export names Dolphin Surf and Dolphin Mini make them easy to confuse, but their bodies and dimensions are different, so body panels, glass and trim from one will not suit the other. Do not order Dolphin parts for a Seagull because of the name. If you work on both cars, keep their parts separate and match every part by its OE number.

Will parts for the all-new Seagull fit my car?

No. In July 2026 details were published of an all-new Seagull for China. It is a larger car, 4,205 mm long on a 2,650 mm wheelbase, with a 95 kW motor. The current car is 3,780 mm long on a 2,500 mm wheelbase, with a 55 kW motor. The two share a name, but the new car's parts will not fit the current one. Treat any part listed for the second-generation car as a separate fitment, and match every part by the OE number on the old one.

How do I find the right tyre size?

Read the size on the sidewall of the tyres already fitted to the car, rather than going by the model name. Sizes quoted for other markets may be different, so do not take a size from a spec sheet for another version of the car. The same applies to rims and wheel trims. If you are replacing a rim as well, match it by its OE number and check the rim width before you order.

Which battery and motor does my car have?

The Seagull built and sold in China has a 55 kW motor and one of two batteries, 30.08 kWh or 38.88 kWh. The Dolphin Surf, sold outside China, uses different motors and batteries, so do not take figures from a spec sheet for another version. Battery, charging and motor parts must suit the pack and motor fitted. Check which battery the car has before ordering battery, charging or drive parts, then confirm each part by its OE number.

Does the Seagull need oil and filters?

It has no engine, so there is no engine oil, oil filter, spark plug or exhaust part to buy. The Seagull is fully electric, with a single motor driving the front wheels. Its routine parts are the ones any electric car needs: brake pads and discs, brake fluid, wiper blades, a cabin filter, and tyres and front suspension parts as they wear. Regenerative braking takes some load off the brakes, but discs on a car used for short trips can still corrode. Follow BYD's service schedule and order consumables by OE number.

What should I check after a kerb or pothole strike?

Check the front lower control arms, their bushes and the wheel alignment. Kerb and pothole strikes are common on a small city car, and the front arms and bushes take the impact. If the car pulls to one side or the front tyres wear unevenly, check the arms for bending before ordering. A knock or clunk over bumps can point to the anti-roll bar links, control arm bushes or strut top mounts, so find the source with the car's weight on its wheels. Order arms by side, and match each part by its OE number.

Can the Seagull tow or carry roof bars?

This page gives no braked or unbraked trailer limit and no roof load for the Seagull. Plan on the car being unsuitable for a tow bar or roof bars unless BYD approves otherwise. If a customer asks for one, check what BYD approves for the car before fitting anything. For roof-line and upper body parts, keep in mind that the Seagull is lower than the Dolphin Surf sold outside China, at 1,540 mm against 1,590 mm. Match those parts by the OE number on the old part.

Has the Seagull had a facelift?

Yes. A facelift in February 2025 brought revised bumpers and BYD's God's Eye C driver-assistance system. On 11 May 2026 the 2026 model added a version with lidar, a 12.8-inch screen and interior changes, and the 3,780 mm body stayed the same. In July 2026 details of an all-new, larger Seagull for China were published, and its parts will not fit the current car. Because the bumpers changed in February 2025, check which version you have before ordering body parts. If a listing is split by build date, read the build date on the identification plate before you order.

How do I order a part when I cannot find a number on the old one?

Look again once the part is off the car, because many numbers are printed or moulded on a face you cannot see while it is fitted. Labels can also be hidden under dirt or on the back of a bracket. If there is still no number, send a photo of the part and one of where it was fitted through the quote form, with the model, trim and the build date from the identification plate. We reply within 24 hours, usually sooner. Do not order just because a part looks the same in a photo.

Safety Recalls Affecting This Model

One campaign touches this car, and it replaces no part. From 20 May 2024 BYD recalled 16,666 Seagulls built between 7 April and 31 May 2023, the first weeks of production, over a camera-driver software fault in the multimedia display assembly that could black-screen the reversing image. The remedy is a software update, so if you hold a part from this period there is nothing here for it to supersede, and nothing to order.

Two much larger BYD campaigns get misattributed to this car and cover neither it nor any of its badges, the September 2024 steering-controller campaign and the October 2025 campaigns on other models. If you have been told a Dolphin Surf, Dolphin Mini, Seagull or Atto 1 is affected by either of those, check the vehicle identification number against the actual campaign before ordering or holding back a part on that basis.
