BYD S2 Parts

The BYD S2 is a subcompact electric crossover built for one model year, 2019 to 2021 in this catalogue, with front-wheel drive from a single 70 kW motor and a 40.62 kWh battery. It shares its shell with the Yuan EV, shortened by 260 mm at the overhangs, so bumpers, lamps and the panels around them are S2-specific even where a Yuan EV listing looks close. Order against the OE number, not the resemblance.

Symptom Finder: Known Weak Points

What you see or hearCheck first
Parking brake does not hold, or the pedal travels further than it should The rear parking brake cables and the park mechanism in the rear calipers. The S2 uses a foot pedal, so check the cables for stretch or seizure before ordering, then match the caliper by side and OE number.
Car will not take charge Try another charging point and cable, then check the socket on the car for damage or dirt. If the fault stays, the on-board charger is next, and that is high-voltage work for a workshop.
Knock or thump from the rear over bumps The torsion-beam bushes and the rear dampers. Check the bushes for cracking and the dampers for leaks, then order by the OE number on the old part.
Clonk from the front over bumps or when steering The MacPherson strut top mounts, anti-roll bar drop links and the struts themselves. Check each for play before ordering, and replace struts in axle pairs.
ABS warning light on Start with the wheel speed sensor and its wiring at each corner. On Chuang Luxury cars with stability control, the sensor set may differ, so match by OE number.
Water in the cabin on a car with a glass roof The panoramic roof drains, which can block, before the roof seals. Only the Chuang Luxury has this roof, so confirm it is fitted first.
Headlamp dim or out The halogen bulb before the lamp unit. If the lamp is cracked or damaged, order it by side and by OE number, since the S2's front end is its own.

About BYD S2 Parts

The BYD S2 is a small five-seat electric crossover. It was shown at Auto Shanghai in April 2019 and went on sale in China in June 2019. It was developed from a longer BYD electric crossover of 2019, called the parent car on this page. The S2 shares that car's 2,535 mm wheelbase, 1,785 mm width and 1,680 mm height, but at 4,100 mm long it is 260 mm shorter. A single 70 kW motor drives the front wheels from a 40.62 kWh ternary lithium battery. There is no engine, so the car needs no engine oil, fuel filters or exhaust sensors. It does need the running gear of a small hatchback: MacPherson struts at the front, a torsion beam at the rear, disc brakes all round with a foot-operated parking brake, and halogen headlamps. Every part on this page is listed by its OE number, and matching that number on the old part is the surest way to confirm a replacement fits.

What to know before buying BYD S2 parts

Start by making sure the car is an S2 and not its longer parent car, the BYD electric crossover it was developed from. The S2 follows that car's design with only small changes to the details, so the two are easy to mix up. The quickest check is overall length: 4,100 mm for the S2 against 4,360 mm for the 2019 parent car. The wheelbase, width and height are the same on both cars, so measuring between the wheel centres will not tell them apart.

The 260 mm difference sits entirely at the front and rear of the car, and that is where most wrong orders happen. Treat bumpers, grilles, lamps and the panels around them as S2 parts, whatever a listing for the parent car appears to offer. Through the middle the two cars are close, but close is not the same as interchangeable. The S2's motor is rated at 70 kW, the same rating as the lower-powered version of the parent car, and both cars use ternary lithium batteries. A matching rating does not make it the same part, so order drive and high-voltage parts by the OE number on the old part.

The S2 was sold in four trims, and some equipment changes from one car to the next. Anti-lock brakes are standard, but stability control was an option on the top trim, the Chuang Luxury, and was not offered on the other three. The brake control unit and some sensors can therefore differ between two cars that look the same. The panoramic roof is standard on the Chuang Luxury and absent on the Yue Basic, Zhi Standard and Yao Comfort, so roof glass, seals and drains only suit glass-roof cars. Reversing aids and daytime running lights also varied by trim. Check what is fitted to the car before ordering any of these parts.

The brakes need one extra check. Every S2 has a foot-operated parking brake working on the rear wheels, so the rear calipers carry a mechanical parking mechanism. A caliper from a BYD with an electric parking brake will not suit this car. Order rear calipers by side and by OE number.

Other parts are simpler. The S2 was built for a single model year with no facelift, so no build date splits its parts. Every trim runs 205/60 R16 tyres front and rear, and there is no spare wheel. For painted panels, order by the colour code on the car rather than by colour name.

Before You Order: 8 Checks

  1. Measure the overall length if you are unsure whether the car is an S2 or its longer parent car: 4,100 mm is the S2 and 4,360 mm the 2019 parent car. The wheelbase is the same on both, so do not measure that.
  2. Match the OE number on the part you are replacing to the OE number on the listing, since a matching number is the surest check that a part fits.
  3. Treat bumpers, grilles, lamps and the panels at either end as S2 parts, and order them by OE number rather than from listings for the parent car.
  4. Order rear calipers for a foot-operated parking brake, by side, since a caliper from an electric parking brake car will not suit the S2.
  5. Check whether the car has stability control before ordering the brake control unit or its sensors, since only some Chuang Luxury cars have it.
  6. Look at the roof before ordering roof glass, seals or drains, since only the Chuang Luxury has the panoramic roof.
  7. Order tyres and rims at 205/60 R16, after reading the sidewall to make sure the car still runs the factory size.
  8. Order painted panels by the colour code on the car rather than by colour name.

Generations and Facelifts

The S2 comes from a line of small BYD crossovers. The first of them launched in March 2016, following the petrol S1, and an electric version followed. The 2019 electric version, launched in February 2019 and called the parent car on this page, measures 4,360 mm on a 2,535 mm wheelbase. It was offered as the EV360 with a 70 kW motor and as the EV535 with up to 120 kW.

The S2 was shown at Auto Shanghai in April 2019 and went on sale in China on 17 June 2019. It keeps the parent car's wheelbase, width, height and general design, with changes to the details, but it is 260 mm shorter at 4,100 mm. It is a front-wheel-drive five-seater with a 70 kW, 180 Nm motor and a 40.62 kWh ternary lithium battery. It came in four trims: Yue Basic, Zhi Standard, Yao Comfort and Chuang Luxury. The body, drive, battery, brakes, suspension and 205/60 R16 tyre size are the same on all four.

There was only one model year, 2019, and the S2 was never facelifted, so no build date splits its parts. The differences between cars come from trim equipment. Stability control was an option on the Chuang Luxury only. The panoramic roof is standard on the Chuang Luxury and absent on the other trims. Reversing aids and daytime running lights also varied from trim to trim.

BYD's later small crossovers went a different way. The successor launched in 2021 moved to the Blade lithium iron phosphate battery, so battery and high-voltage parts from those cars do not suit the S2. For an S2, check the equipment on the car and match each part by its OE number.

BYD S2 Parts: Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make sure a part fits my BYD S2?

Match the OE number. Every part on this site is listed under the OE number printed on the original part, and if the number on the part you are replacing matches the listing, the part fits. That matters on the S2 because it looks so much like its longer parent car, and parts that look alike between the two are not always the same part. If the old part is missing or its number cannot be read, send us a photo through the quote form and we will reply within 24 hours, usually sooner.

How can I tell an S2 from its longer parent car?

Measure the overall length. The S2 is 4,100 mm long and the 2019 parent car, the BYD electric crossover it was developed from, is 4,360 mm, so the S2 is 260 mm shorter. The two share a 2,535 mm wheelbase, a 1,785 mm width and a 1,680 mm height, so the wheelbase, width and roofline will not tell them apart. The styling is close as well, since the S2 follows the parent car's design with small changes to the details. Once you know which car you have, confirm each part by its OE number.

Do parts from the longer parent car fit the S2?

Some may, but do not assume any of them will. The wheelbase, width and height match, so the two cars are close through the middle, and the difference in length falls at the front and rear. Treat bumpers, lamps, grilles and the panels around them as S2 parts. The S2's motor is rated at 70 kW, the same rating as the lower-powered version of the parent car, but a matching rating does not make it the same part. Check the OE number on the old part and order against that.

Does the BYD S2 have an electric parking brake?

No. Every S2 has a foot-operated parking brake, on all four trims. The pedal works the rear brakes through cables, so the rear calipers carry a mechanical parking mechanism, and there is no parking brake motor to replace. A caliper from a BYD with an electric parking brake is built differently and will not suit this car. When a rear caliper or a parking brake cable needs replacing, order it for the correct side and match the OE number on the old part.

Does my S2 have stability control?

Only if it is a Chuang Luxury that was ordered with it. Anti-lock brakes are standard on every S2, but stability control was never standard. It was an option on the top trim, the Chuang Luxury, and was not offered on the Yue Basic, Zhi Standard or Yao Comfort. Two cars of the same trim can therefore differ, and the brake control unit and some sensors may not match between them. Check what is fitted to the car before ordering, then match the part by its OE number.

Was the panoramic roof standard on the S2?

Only on the top trim. The Chuang Luxury has a panoramic roof as standard, and the Yue Basic, Zhi Standard and Yao Comfort trims have a steel roof. Both kinds of S2 are on the road, and roof glass, seals and drains only suit the glass-roof car. Look at the roof before ordering anything for it. If water is getting into a glass-roof car, check the drains for blockage before ordering seals, then match each part by the OE number on the old one.

What battery does the BYD S2 use?

A 40.62 kWh ternary lithium battery, with the same capacity on all four trims. It is not a Blade battery. BYD's later small crossovers, starting with the successor launched in 2021, moved to the Blade lithium iron phosphate battery, and their packs and high-voltage parts do not suit the S2. Battery work is high-voltage work and belongs in a workshop with the right equipment. Match any battery or high-voltage part by the OE number on the old part before ordering.

What wheels and tyres does the S2 take?

205/60 R16 front and rear, on every trim, so there is only one factory tyre size to order. The S2 has no spare wheel, so a replacement wheel or tyre is only needed when one on the car is damaged or worn. Read the size on the sidewall before ordering anyway, in case the car has been fitted with non-standard wheels since it left the factory. Then order rims and tyres to match what the car is actually running.

Which model year is my S2, and was there a facelift?

The S2 was sold for a single model year, 2019, and was never facelifted. It was shown at Auto Shanghai in April 2019 and went on sale in June 2019 in four trims. With no facelift, no build date splits the bumpers, lamps or battery. What separates two cars is trim, since stability control, the panoramic roof, reversing aids and daytime running lights varied between them. Check the equipment on the car, then match every part by its OE number.

What brakes does the S2 have?

Discs all round, on every trim, with anti-lock brakes as standard. The front discs are ventilated and the rear discs are solid, so front and rear discs are different parts. Confirm the axle before ordering, and replace discs and pads as axle sets. The rear calipers also carry the mechanical parking brake worked by the foot pedal, so each rear caliper must be ordered for the correct side. Match every brake part by the OE number on the old part.

My S2 will not charge. Where should I look first?

Start with the simple checks. Try another charging point and another cable, then look at the charging socket on the car for damage, bent pins or dirt. If the car still will not take charge, the fault may be in the on-board charger or its control. That is high-voltage work for a workshop with the right equipment and training. Once the faulty part has been found, order the replacement by the OE number on the old unit.

Are the S2's headlamps LED or halogen?

Halogen, with manual height adjustment. The top trim adds automatic headlamps that switch on in low light, and daytime running lights were not fitted to every trim. A dim or dead headlamp is usually a bulb, so try a new bulb before ordering a lamp unit. If the lamp itself is cracked or damaged, order it by side and by the OE number on the old unit, because the S2's front end is its own and lamps from the parent car should not be assumed to fit.

Safety Recalls Affecting This Model

No recall has been identified for the BYD S2. A sweep of the Chinese defect-recall registry and recall-announcement corpus found no campaign naming this car, and the campaigns that do exist for other BYD models do not apply here: the steering-column recall covers the F3-R and F3DM, the steering-controller recall the Dolphin and Yuan Plus, the battery-sealing recall the LFP Yuan Pro, and the drive-motor controller recalls the Tang. The S2 was never exported, so there is no foreign recall register to check either.

If you have been told otherwise, confirm the car first. The S2 is identified by its factory model code, BYD7003BEV1, not by a build date, since it ran for a single model year with no revisions. Before any high-voltage or braking work, check the VIN against BYD's current campaign lookup directly, since a registry sweep at the time of writing is not a substitute for checking the specific car in front of you.
