BYD Song Max DM-i Parts

The BYD Song MAX DM-i is a five-door, six or seven-seat plug-in hybrid MPV sold only in China, and its bodyshell has carried three separate powertrains. Ordering hinges on the model code, since the naturally aspirated DM-i shares its BYD6470MT6HEV prefix with the older turbocharged Song MAX DM, and only the trailing digit tells the engine, gearbox and battery pack apart. Quote the code in full before ordering anything on the engine, transmission or cooling circuit.

Symptom Finder: Known Weak Points

What you see or hearCheck first
Roof glass, seal or headliner will not line up Check which roof the car has: electric sunroof, panoramic glass or the 1,880 mm raised roof. Parts for each are different, so reorder by the OE number on the old part.
Middle-row seat frame or rail will not bolt in Check the seat layout. Six-seat cars use two captain's chairs and seven-seat cars use a bench, and their frames and rails do not interchange.
A turbocharger or dual-clutch part has been quoted for the car The DM-i has a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre engine and an E-CVT. Turbo and dual-clutch parts belong to the older Song Max, so order by the OE number on the old part.
Electric range well below what was expected Find out whether the car is a 51 km or 105 km version before suspecting the battery. The two use 8.3 kWh and 18.3 kWh packs.
Rear of the car sits low or knocks over bumps when loaded Check the rear springs, dampers and torsion beam bushes. They carry the load of six or seven seats, so replace springs and dampers in axle pairs.
Engine warning light Start with the lambda and emission sensors, ignition coils and plugs. The engine runs in short bursts, so order each part by OE number.
Adaptive cruise or lane-keeping warning after a minor front knock Check the front radar or camera and its bracket. Entry trims do not have these systems, so confirm the car has them before ordering.

Most Replaced Parts on the Song Max DM-i

  1. Timing drive componentsThe 1.5-litre engine runs only part of the time, so age matters as well as distance
  2. Oil pump and sump circuit partsFor the naturally aspirated 1.5-litre engine, not the older Song Max turbo unit
  3. Coolant hoses, expansion tanks and sensorsSeparate cooling for the engine and for the battery and hybrid drive
  4. Springs and top mountsA six or seven-seat MPV that often runs fully loaded works its rear springs hard
  5. Fuel tank, lines and filtersFuel can sit for weeks in a car driven mostly on electric power

About BYD Song Max DM-i Parts

The BYD Song Max DM-i is a plug-in hybrid MPV with six or seven seats. It was launched in China on 12 March 2022. It has a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre petrol engine of 81 kW and an electric motor that drives the front wheels through an E-CVT hybrid transmission. The blade LFP battery is either 8.3 kWh or 18.3 kWh. The body is 4,710 mm long on a 2,785 mm wheelbase and is shared with the earlier petrol and Song Max DM versions. The powertrains are different. For parts, the car has two sets of needs: the oil, filters, timing and fuel system of a petrol engine, and the battery, motor and cooling hardware of an electric drive. Engine and transmission parts from the older Song Max do not suit it. Every part on this page is listed by its OE number, and matching the number on the old part is the surest way to confirm a part fits.

What to know before buying BYD Song Max DM-i parts

Start by making sure the car is a DM-i. BYD sold the Song Max in China on one body with three powertrains. There was a petrol car with a turbocharged 1.5-litre engine from 2017, then the plug-in hybrid Song Max DM, and from 12 March 2022 the DM-i, when the petrol car was withdrawn. The DM-i uses a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre engine of 81 kW and 135 Nm, paired with an electric motor through an E-CVT. Engine, transmission, exhaust and cooling parts do not cross between the three, so match them by the OE number on the old part.

Next, find out which drive version the car is. Cars rated at 51 km of NEDC electric range have an 8.3 kWh blade battery and the EHS132 hybrid system with a 132 kW motor. Cars rated at 105 km have an 18.3 kWh battery and the EHS145 system with a 145 kW motor. Each battery comes with its own drive unit, so treat battery, motor and hybrid transmission parts as specific to one version.

Most wrong body orders come from the roof. Standard cars are 1,690 mm tall. The raised roof takes that to 1,880 mm and came only on six-seat cars at the top of the range. Most other cars have an electric sunroof, and the middle 105 km trim was reported with a panoramic glass roof. The roof skin, headliner, glass and seals all depend on the roof type. Find out which of the three the car has, and measure the height if you are unsure.

The seat layout splits the cabin in the same way. Seven-seat cars have a 2+3+2 layout with a middle bench, and six-seat cars have 2+2+2 with captain's chairs. Middle-row frames, rails and trim do not interchange.

Some hardware is the same on every trim. All cars run 225/55 R17 tyres on 17-inch wheels, with MacPherson struts at the front, a torsion beam at the rear and LED headlights. The rear doors are hinged, so the car has no sliding-door hardware. Driver-assistance equipment does vary. Entry cars were reported without adaptive cruise or lane-keeping. Higher trims add both, along with adaptive lighting, and the power tailgate was reported on the top 105 km trim only. After a front-end repair, match any radar, camera or headlamp by the OE number on the old unit.

Finally, do not order driveline parts from BYD M6 listings. The M6 sold outside China shares an updated version of the body, but it was launched as a battery-electric car.

Before You Order: 8 Checks

  1. Confirm the car is a DM-i and not the older Song Max DM or petrol car, then order engine and transmission parts by OE number.
  2. Match the OE number on the part you are replacing to the OE number on the listing.
  3. Check whether the car is a 51 km or 105 km version before ordering battery, motor or hybrid transmission parts, since each has its own battery and drive unit.
  4. Measure the roof height if you are unsure (1,690 mm standard, 1,880 mm raised) and note the roof glass type before ordering anything above the windows.
  5. Count the middle-row seats before ordering seat frames, rails or trim, since six-seat and seven-seat cars differ.
  6. Order painted panels by the colour code on the car rather than by colour name.
  7. Ignore any sliding-door hardware offered for this car, since it has hinged rear doors, and order door parts by side.
  8. Do not take driveline parts from BYD M6 listings. Order from the OE number on the old part instead.

Generations and Facelifts

The Song Max name began in September 2017 on a petrol MPV with a turbocharged 1.5-litre engine and a manual or dual-clutch gearbox, on a 2,785 mm wheelbase. BYD then added the Song Max DM, a plug-in hybrid on the same body, sold from 2019. In 2021 the Song Max was facelifted with a new front bumper, a reworked rear and a 12.8-inch screen, so front and rear body parts from before and after that change are not the same.

BYD announced the DM-i in December 2021 and launched it on 12 March 2022 in five trims, two with 51 km of electric range and three with 105 km. It swapped the turbocharged engine for a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre unit with an E-CVT, and the petrol Song Max left sale when it arrived. The sources we checked list only the 2022 model year, and Chinese listings now show the car as out of production. The DM-i has had no facelift. Parts on the DM-i split by roof height, seat layout and range version rather than by date.

From 2024 the body was also sold outside China as the BYD M6, called the eMax 7 in some markets. These cars have different powertrains from the Song Max DM-i, so do not use them as a source for its driveline parts.

BYD Song Max DM-i Parts: Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make sure a part fits my Song Max DM-i?

Match the OE number. Every part on this site is listed under the OE number printed on the original part, and if the number on the part you are replacing matches the listing, the part fits. This matters on this car because the same body was sold with three powertrains, two battery sizes and three roof types, and the model name alone does not tell them apart. If the old part is missing or its number is unreadable, send a photo through the quote form and we will reply within 24 hours, usually sooner.

Is the Song Max DM-i the same as the older Song Max DM?

No. The Song Max DM was the earlier plug-in hybrid on the same body, and it was dropped in 2022. The DM-i went on sale on 12 March 2022. It uses a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre engine of 81 kW and 135 Nm, paired with an electric motor through an E-CVT. The petrol Song Max, with its turbocharged 1.5-litre engine, left sale at the same time. Engine, transmission, exhaust and cooling parts are specific to each car, so match them by the OE number on the old part rather than by model name.

Which battery and motor does my car have?

It depends on the range version. Cars rated at 51 km of NEDC electric range have an 8.3 kWh blade LFP battery and the EHS132 hybrid system, with a 132 kW, 316 Nm motor. Cars rated at 105 km have an 18.3 kWh battery and the EHS145 system, with a 145 kW, 325 Nm motor. Each battery comes with its own drive unit, so a part for one version will not necessarily suit the other. Read the part number on the old unit and order by that.

What is the raised roof, and can one be fitted later?

The raised roof was built into the body at the factory, so it cannot be added later. It lifts the height from 1,690 mm to 1,880 mm and came only on six-seat cars at the top of the range. Launch reports differ on exactly which trims had it, so measure the car rather than going by trim name. The roof skin, headliner and roof glass all depend on the roof height, and none of them fit a standard-height car. Measure the height before ordering anything above the windows, then match each part by OE number.

Which roof glass does my Song Max DM-i have?

It has one of three types. Most cars have a conventional electric sunroof. The middle 105 km trim was reported with a panoramic glass roof, and the top six-seat cars have the raised roof. The glass, seals and headliner differ for each type, so a panel from one will not suit another. Look up at the roof and note which type is fitted. If it is the raised roof, confirm the 1,880 mm height. Then order the glass by the OE number on the old panel.

Six seats or seven, does it change which parts fit?

Yes. Seven-seat cars use a 2+3+2 layout with a middle bench, and six-seat cars use 2+2+2 with two middle-row captain's chairs. Middle-row frames, rails and trim differ between the two layouts. Reviews at launch say the layout was set by trim rather than chosen by the buyer, and the raised roof came only on six-seat cars. Count the seats in the middle row before ordering any seat or cabin trim part, and match each part by the OE number on the old one.

What tyres and wheels does it use?

Every trim was reported on 17-inch alloy wheels with 225/55 R17 tyres, so the whole range has one factory size. That keeps tyre orders simple, but read the sidewall of the tyres already fitted in case a previous owner changed the wheels. BYD M6 cars sold outside China come with other wheel designs, so do not order rims from M6 listings. Match rims by OE number and tyres by the size on the sidewall.

Does the Song Max DM-i have sliding doors?

No. It has conventional hinged rear doors, and launch reviews in China picked out the lack of sliding doors as a weakness. There is no slide rail, roller, cable or guide track anywhere on the car, so any listing offering sliding-door hardware for it was written for a different MPV. Hinges, check straps, seals and door glass are all hinged-door parts. Order them for the correct side and by the OE number on the old part.

It has a plug-in battery. Does it still need oil and filters?

Yes. The 1.5-litre engine charges the battery and helps drive the car, so it needs engine oil, an oil filter, an air filter, spark plugs and the sensors any petrol engine has. If the car is driven mostly within its electric range, the engine will have run for less time than the odometer suggests, and fuel left in the tank for long periods puts its own demands on the fuel system. Follow the car's service book, and order each filter and fluid part by OE number.

What suspension does it use?

It has MacPherson struts at the front and a torsion beam at the rear, the same layout on every trim. On an MPV that often carries a full load of six or seven people, the rear springs, dampers and beam bushes work hard, and wear there is more often caused by load than by a fault. Replace springs and dampers in axle pairs so the car sits level, and match each part by the OE number on the old one.

Can I use parts from other cars built on the same body?

Not for the driveline. The DM-i shares its body with the earlier petrol Song Max from 2017 and the plug-in hybrid Song Max DM from 2019, but the powertrains are different. Engine, transmission, exhaust and cooling parts do not cross between the three. Outside China the body is also sold as the BYD M6, with refreshed styling and different powertrains, so do not use M6 listings for driveline parts either. Match every part by the OE number on the old part rather than by model name.

Has the Song Max DM-i had a facelift?

No facelift has been found for the DM-i. It went on sale on 12 March 2022 in five trims. The sources we checked list only the 2022 model year, and Chinese listings now show the car as out of production. The earlier Song Max body was facelifted in 2021 with a new front bumper and a reworked rear, so treat bumpers and rear panels from an older Song Max with caution. Within the DM-i, parts split by roof, seat layout and range version rather than by date. Match each part by OE number.
