BYD Song Pro DM Parts

The BYD Song Pro DM is the plug-in hybrid launched July 2019, sold for one model year only and never facelifted. It pairs a 1.5 turbo engine driving the front wheels through a wet dual-clutch gearbox with a rear-mounted drive motor, the two axles mechanically unconnected, and depending on trim a second motor on the front axle as well. Confirm motor count and axle layout from the VIN before ordering anything below the floor.

Symptom Finder: Known Weak Points

What you see or hearCheck first
Parking brake warning or a rear brake that will not release The electronic parking brake at the rear calipers. Check the caliper motor and its connector, then order the caliper for the correct side by OE number.
Engine warning light while the petrol engine is running Start with the lambda and emission sensors on the 1.5-litre turbo engine, then check the turbo hoses. Match each part by the OE number on the old one.
Jerky pull-away or harsh shifts from the gearbox The dual-clutch gearbox and its fluid. Read the OE number on the gearbox before ordering fluid or parts, since the unit must be matched to the car.
Whine or clunk from the rear axle when accelerating The rear electric drive unit, its mounts and the rear drive shafts. Only the DM drives the rear wheels, so order these parts from this page.
Fuel smell or a fuel system warning The fuel tank, lines, filler and vapour parts around the 52 litre tank. Trace the leak before ordering, then match by OE number.
Knocking over bumps or uneven tyre wear Dampers, struts and the multi-link rear suspension joints. Check both sides of the axle and order by side and OE number.

About BYD Song Pro DM Parts

The BYD Song Pro DM is the first plug-in hybrid version of the Song Pro, a five-seat compact SUV that went on sale on 11 July 2019 and was built until December 2021. It is 4,650 mm long on a 2,712 mm wheelbase. A 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine drives the front wheels through a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox, and an electric motor drives the rear axle, with no mechanical link between the two. A 15.7 kWh battery gives 81 km of electric range on the NEDC cycle. The High Energy version adds a second motor at the front. That layout means the car needs two sets of parts: engine, gearbox, fuel and emission parts for the petrol side, and rear drive unit, battery and high-voltage parts for the electric side. Every part on this page is listed by its OE number, and that number is the surest way to confirm a part fits.

What to know before buying BYD Song Pro DM parts

Start by making sure the car is a Song Pro DM. From 2019 the Song Pro came in three forms on one body, 4,650 mm long, 1,860 mm wide and 1,700 mm tall on a 2,712 mm wheelbase: a petrol car, the all-electric Song Pro EV and this plug-in hybrid. The DM is the only one of the three with a driven rear axle. Its replacement, the Song Pro DM-i, drives the front wheels only and uses a naturally aspirated engine and a Blade lithium iron phosphate battery. The quickest check is underneath. A Song Pro DM has an electric drive unit between the rear wheels with drive shafts out to each rear hub, and the other Song Pro models do not.

The DM was sold in two versions, and nothing on the outside shows which one you are looking at. The AWD Performance version, offered in three grades, pairs the engine and a belt-driven starter generator with a single 120 kW rear motor, for 238 kW and 525 Nm in total. The AWD High Energy version adds a 110 kW front motor, taking the system to 348 kW and 775 Nm. The front motor, its wiring and its cooling exist only on the High Energy car, so check which version is fitted before ordering anything for the front drive.

The gearbox needs care. The engine drives through a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox, but published data disagrees on whether every version uses the same unit. Order gearbox parts and fluid by the OE number on the gearbox fitted to the car, not by the model name.

The battery is another trap. The DM's 15.7 kWh pack is not the Blade pack fitted to the DM-i, so a pack, module or battery part listed for a Song Pro on the strength of the name alone may be the wrong one. Match every high-voltage battery part by the OE number on the old part.

A few things vary from car to car. Tyres are listed as 235/50 R19 front and rear, but read the size on the sidewall before ordering tyres or rims. The rear brakes carry the electronic parking brake, so a rear caliper must match the one fitted. Order painted panels by the colour code on the car rather than by colour name. The DM was built as a single model year with no facelift, so no build date is known to split its parts.

Before You Order: 7 Checks

  1. Look under the rear of the car for an electric drive unit between the rear wheels. If there is one, it is a Song Pro DM, and you can order from this page.
  2. Match the OE number on the part you are replacing to the OE number on the listing, since that is the surest check that a part fits.
  3. Check whether the car has a front drive motor as well as the rear one before ordering any front drive part, wiring or cooling part.
  4. Read the OE number on the gearbox before ordering gearbox parts or fluid, rather than going by the model name.
  5. Match any battery part by the OE number on the old part, since the DM-i's Blade pack does not suit this car.
  6. Read the tyre size on the sidewall before ordering tyres or rims.
  7. Order painted panels by the colour code on the car rather than by colour name.

Generations and Facelifts

The Song Pro DM is a separate model from the earlier Song DM, a smaller plug-in hybrid SUV introduced in 2017 and sold alongside the Song Pro until 2022. That older car is a different vehicle, and its parts should not be ordered for a Song Pro DM.

The Song Pro range arrived in 2019 in petrol, all-electric and plug-in hybrid form, sharing one body. The Song Pro DM went on sale on 11 July 2019 in four versions: three AWD Performance grades with a single rear motor, and the AWD High Energy version with an extra motor at the front. All four use the 1.5-litre turbocharged BYD476ZQB engine, a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox and a 15.7 kWh battery, with front ventilated discs, rear discs, an electronic parking brake, MacPherson strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension.

The DM was built as a 2019 model year for its whole life and was never facelifted or given a model-year update. Production ended in December 2021. For parts, that means there is no build-date split to check on this car. The split that matters is the version, one rear motor or front and rear motors, and it has to be confirmed on the car itself.

The DM was replaced by the Song Pro DM-i, which kept the Song Pro name and body style but changed the drive completely: a naturally aspirated engine, front-wheel drive only and a Blade lithium iron phosphate battery. Engine, gearbox, battery and rear axle parts for the DM-i do not suit the DM. Body and trim parts may look alike, but order every part by its OE number rather than assuming a Song Pro part fits.

BYD Song Pro DM Parts: Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make sure a part fits my Song Pro DM?

Match the OE number. Every part on this site is listed under the OE number printed on the original part, and if the number on the part you are replacing matches the listing, the part fits. That check matters on this car because the Song Pro name was also used for a petrol car, an electric car and the later DM-i, and many of their parts differ. If the old part is missing or its number is unreadable, send a photo through the quote form and we will reply within 24 hours, usually sooner.

How can I tell a Song Pro DM from a Song Pro DM-i?

Look under the back of the car. The Song Pro DM drives its rear wheels with an electric motor, so there is a drive unit between the rear wheels and a drive shaft to each rear hub. The DM-i that replaced it drives the front wheels only, uses a naturally aspirated engine rather than a turbo, and carries a Blade lithium iron phosphate battery. Engine, gearbox, battery and rear axle parts do not cross between the two, so confirm which car you have, then order by OE number.

What is the difference between the AWD Performance and AWD High Energy versions?

The number of drive motors. The AWD Performance version, sold in three grades, has one 120 kW motor on the rear axle, giving 238 kW and 525 Nm with the engine. The AWD High Energy version adds a 110 kW motor at the front, for 348 kW and 775 Nm, and reaches 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds against 6.5 seconds. Nothing on the outside tells them apart. Check for the front motor on the car before ordering any front drive part, and match it by OE number.

Do parts from the Song Pro EV or the petrol Song Pro fit?

Some body and cabin parts may be shared, since all three cars use the same basic body, but do not assume it. The drive is completely different. The Song Pro EV is fully electric and has no engine, gearbox or fuel system, and the petrol Song Pro has no battery, no starter generator and no rear motor. Nothing for the rear drive unit, the high-voltage system or the hybrid gearbox should be taken from either car. Compare the OE number on the old part with the listing before you order.

Can I fit a Song Pro DM-i battery to my Song Pro DM?

No. The Song Pro DM uses a 15.7 kWh pack, and the DM-i uses BYD's Blade lithium iron phosphate battery in different sizes. The two packs, their modules and the parts around them are not the same, even though the cars share a name. A listing that only says Song Pro does not tell you which pack it was built for. Read the OE number on the pack or module you are replacing and match it exactly before ordering any high-voltage battery part.

Which gearbox does the Song Pro DM have, and which fluid does it take?

The engine drives the front wheels through a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Published data disagrees on whether every version of the DM uses exactly the same unit, so do not choose fluid or gearbox parts by the model name alone. Read the OE number on the gearbox fitted to the car, and order parts and fluid to suit that unit. If the number is hard to find or unreadable, send a photo of the gearbox label through the quote form before you order.

Does the Song Pro DM still need engine servicing?

Yes. The 1.5-litre turbocharged BYD476ZQB engine drives the front wheels directly, so it needs engine oil, an oil filter, an air filter and spark plugs like any petrol engine. It also has the lambda and emission sensors and turbo hoses of a petrol car, and a 52 litre fuel tank with its lines and filters. Plan servicing around the engine as well as the electric parts, and order filters and sensors by the OE number on the old parts.

What tyre size does the Song Pro DM use?

The size listed for the car is 235/50 R19 on both axles. Tyres and wheels can be changed over a car's life, though, so the listing is only a starting point. Read the size on the sidewall of the tyres already fitted before ordering tyres, and check the rim size at the same time if you are replacing a wheel. The car drives both axles, so keep tyres of the same size and similar wear front and rear, and order in pairs where you can.

What brakes does the Song Pro DM have?

Ventilated discs at the front and discs at the rear, with an electronic parking brake worked through the rear calipers. That means a rear caliper carries the parking brake motor and is not the same part as a plain caliper, so order it by side and by the OE number on the old caliper. Order pads and discs for each axle separately rather than as one set, since front and rear are different sizes and designs.

Did the Song Pro DM have a facelift or model-year update?

No. The DM went on sale on 11 July 2019 and was built as a 2019 model year until production ended in December 2021, with no facelift and no mid-life update. There is no build-date split known for its parts, so the thing to confirm is the version, one rear motor or front and rear motors. After the DM came the Song Pro DM-i, a different car underneath. Order by the OE number on the old part rather than by year.

Is the Song Pro DM the same car as the older Song DM?

No. The Song DM is an earlier and smaller plug-in hybrid SUV in BYD's Song family, 4,565 mm long on a 2,660 mm wheelbase, introduced in 2017 and sold alongside the Song Pro until 2022. The names are close enough to confuse, but the body, the dimensions and much of the running gear are different. The Song Pro DM is 4,650 mm long on a 2,712 mm wheelbase. Do not order parts from Song DM listings for this car. Check the model name on the car, then match each part by its OE number.

How do I order a painted body panel?

Order by the colour code on the car rather than by the colour name, since similar-looking colours can carry different codes and finishes. Find the code on the car's identification plate or label, and give it when you send your enquiry. Bumper panels can also carry brackets, clips and sensor mounts that are ordered separately, so check what was fitted to the old panel. Then send the OE number of the panel through the quote form, and we will reply within 24 hours, usually sooner.
