BYD Seal U Parts

The BYD Seal U is the battery-electric SUV sold in China as the Song PLUS EV and shown in Europe from September 2023, built only as a five-door, five-seat front-wheel-drive car. It comes in two body lengths on one unchanged wheelbase, with four different motor outputs and three battery capacities behind the one badge, so ordering by year or trim alone will not tell you which one you have.

Symptom Finder: Known Weak Points

What you see or hearCheck first
A bumper or headlamp that will not line up with the body Early and later bodies use different front and rear ends. Measure the car, 4,705 mm or 4,785 mm, and reorder by the OE number on the original part.
Car will not power up although the drive battery shows charge Test the 12 V battery first. The car needs it to switch on the high-voltage system, so replace it before looking for a fault elsewhere.
Rusty brake discs while the pads still have plenty of material Regenerative braking does most of the slowing, so the discs see little use. Inspect them and replace them only if they are pitted or worn, then order front and rear by axle.
Heating or air conditioning weak or not working The heat-pump system, starting with the compressor, valves and sensors. The car uses a heat pump as standard, so match each climate part by OE number.
Parking sensor or driver-assistance warning after a minor knock The sensors and cameras in the bumpers and their brackets. A bent bracket can trigger the warning on its own, so check it before replacing the sensor.
Knocking or clunking from the front over bumps Front control arm bushes, ball joints and anti-roll bar links. The car weighs about two tonnes, so order the worn part by side and OE number.

Most Replaced Parts on the Seal U

  1. Front and rear bumper coversThe part most often ordered wrong, since early and later cars use different ends
  2. Wheel arch liners and mud flapsFirst to meet road salt and gravel, and often split by kerbs and ramps
  3. Control arms and bushingsAbout two tonnes of electric SUV works the front bushes and ball joints hard
  4. Wheel bearings and knucklesFront and rear bearings differ, so order by axle and by side
  5. Mirrors and mirror glassCamera equipment varies by trim and build date, so match the housing to the car

About BYD Seal U Parts

The BYD Song Plus EV is a five-seat, front-wheel-drive electric SUV. Outside China it is also sold as the Seal U. It went on sale in China in April 2021. A single motor drives the front wheels from a BYD Blade battery, and the motor and its power electronics are packaged together in an 8-in-1 unit. With no engine, the car needs no engine oil, spark plugs or fuel filters. The parts it does need are brakes, suspension, body panels, lights, driver-assistance sensors and the heat-pump climate system. The name causes most wrong orders. The plug-in hybrid Song Plus DM-i shares most of the name, and it is a different car underneath. Every part on this page is listed by its OE number, and matching the number on the old part is the surest way to confirm a part fits.

What to know before buying BYD Seal U parts

First, make sure the car is the electric model. The battery-electric Song Plus EV was built in left-hand drive only. A right-hand-drive car is the plug-in hybrid, which has its own engine bay, its own steering and its own parts. A car with a fuel filler flap is also the hybrid. Steering racks, dashboards and wiper linkages from the right-hand-drive hybrid have no place on this car.

Next, work out which body you have. Every Song Plus EV sits on the same 2,765 mm wheelbase and is 1,890 mm wide, but there are two body lengths. The launch car of 2021 is 4,705 mm long and 1,680 mm tall. The 2023 update, which includes the Champion Edition from June 2023, is 4,785 mm long and 1,660 mm tall. It also has a new front end with Seal-style headlamps, a sportier front bumper and a single full-width tail lamp. Bumpers, grilles, headlamps and tail lamps do not cross between the two bodies, so check the car's length or compare the lamps before ordering body parts.

The drive hardware also follows the body. Early cars use a 135 kW motor with a 71.7 kWh battery. Later cars pair a 150 kW motor with the 71.8 kWh battery and a 160 kW motor with the 87 kWh battery. Order motor, battery and charging parts by the OE number on the unit you are replacing, never by the model year alone.

Some equipment varies from car to car. Chinese listings show 235/50 R19 tyres on every trim, but read the sidewall before ordering, because a previous owner may have changed wheels. Driver-assistance hardware ranges from 5 to 12 surround cameras, 6 to 12 ultrasonic sensors and up to 5 radar units, depending on trim. The Smart Driving cars from February 2025 carry the most, so a bumper repair may need sensors and brackets as well as the panel. For painted panels, order by the colour code on the car rather than by colour name.

Finally, read the build date on the identification plate before ordering front-end sensors, trim or steering-wheel parts. The August 2024 update and the February 2025 Smart Driving update both changed parts that look alike from outside.

Before You Order: 7 Checks

  1. Confirm the car is the battery-electric model and not the plug-in hybrid. A right-hand-drive car or any car with a fuel filler flap is the hybrid, so order from the hybrid's parts instead.
  2. Check which body you have before ordering bumpers or lamps. Cars 4,705 mm long are the 2021 launch car, and cars 4,785 mm long are the 2023 update, so measure if you are unsure.
  3. Match the OE number on the part you are replacing to the OE number on the listing, since a matching number is the surest check that a part fits.
  4. Order a motor, battery or charging part by the OE number on the old unit, because 135, 150 and 160 kW motors and three battery sizes have all been fitted.
  5. Read the tyre size on the sidewall before ordering tyres or wheels, and match what is actually fitted.
  6. Check the build date on the identification plate before ordering front-end sensors, badges or steering-wheel parts, since the August 2024 and February 2025 updates changed them.
  7. After a bumper repair, check the parking sensors, cameras and brackets as well as the panel, and order each sensor by the OE number on the old unit.

Generations and Facelifts

The Song Plus EV is the battery-electric version of BYD's Song Plus SUV. The Song Plus is also sold as a plug-in hybrid, the Song Plus DM-i, and the two share a wheelbase and a basic shape but little else under the skin. The EV went on sale in China in April 2021. It was 4,705 mm long and 1,680 mm tall, with a 135 kW front motor and a 71.7 kWh Blade battery.

The 2023 update was the car's one real facelift. It brought BYD's Ocean X front end with Seal-style headlamps, a new front bumper and a single full-width tail lamp, and the body grew to 4,785 mm while dropping to 1,660 mm. The motor changed to 150 kW with a 71.8 kWh battery, or 160 kW with an 87 kWh battery. The Champion Edition launched on 19 June 2023. Body panels, lamps and drive hardware from before and after this update do not interchange.

Outside China the car is also sold as the Seal U in some markets. The Glory Edition of 29 February 2024 kept the car's core specification and range unchanged, so parts carry over from the Champion car.

The 2025 model arrived in August 2024 with new 19-inch wheels, an illuminated BYD badge in place of the Build Your Dreams lettering and a new steering wheel. The Smart Driving Edition followed in February 2025, adding BYD's God's Eye driver-assistance system with more cameras and radar. Neither update changed the body dimensions. Before ordering wheels, badges, steering-wheel parts or front-end sensors, read the build date on the identification plate.

BYD Seal U Parts: Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make sure a part fits my Song Plus EV?

Match the OE number. Every part on this site is listed under the OE number printed on the original part, and if the number on the part you are replacing matches the listing, the part fits. That check matters on this car because the same name covers two bodies, three motors and a plug-in hybrid sibling. If the old part is missing or its number cannot be read, send a photo through the quote form and we will reply within 24 hours, usually sooner.

Is the Seal U the same car as the Song Plus EV?

Yes. Seal U is an export name for the battery-electric Song Plus EV, so parts for either name fit once the OE number matches. The confusion comes from the plug-in hybrid, the Song Plus DM-i, which some export markets sell as the Seal U DM-i or the Sealion 6. It shares the wheelbase and much of the shape, but the powertrain, cooling and many body parts differ. Check that a listing is for the electric car, then confirm the OE number.

My car is right-hand drive. Which parts apply?

The battery-electric Song Plus EV was built in left-hand drive only, so a right-hand-drive car of this shape is the plug-in hybrid. The hybrid has its own engine bay, its own steering and its own parts. Steering racks, dashboards and wiper linkages for a right-hand-drive car therefore belong to the hybrid. Before ordering, check whether the car has a fuel filler flap, then order from the hybrid's listings by OE number.

How can I tell an early Song Plus EV from the later body?

Measure the car or look at the lamps. The launch car of 2021 is 4,705 mm long and 1,680 mm tall. Cars from the 2023 update onwards, including the Champion Edition, are 4,785 mm long and 1,660 mm tall on the same 2,765 mm wheelbase. The later car has Seal-style headlamps and a single full-width tail lamp. Bumpers, grilles and lamps differ between the two, so settle which body you have before ordering any of them.

Which drive motor does my car have?

It depends on the body and the battery. Early cars use a 135 kW motor with a 71.7 kWh battery. On later cars, the 71.8 kWh battery comes with a 150 kW motor and the 87 kWh battery with a 160 kW motor. Because the output alone does not identify the part, read the OE number on the motor or its housing before ordering, and quote that number on the quote form.

Does the Song Plus EV need engine oil, spark plugs or a fuel filter?

No. The Song Plus EV has no engine, so oil filters, spark plugs, fuel filters and drive belts do not apply. BYD documents the car alongside its plug-in hybrid sibling, so engine items can appear in the same service information, but they belong to the hybrid. Routine items on the electric car are the gear reducer oil, brake fluid, coolant and the cabin filter. Check the service schedule for the next interval due, then order those items by OE number.

Does the heat pump change which air-conditioning parts I need?

Yes. Every Song Plus EV has a heat pump as standard, so the climate system uses different valves, pipework and control parts from a car with a simple electric heater. Parts from other BYD models may look similar without fitting this system. When the heating or cooling fails, trace the fault to the compressor, a valve or a sensor first. Then order the replacement by the OE number on the old part rather than by function.

Why are the brake discs rusty when the pads have barely worn?

Regenerative braking does most of the slowing on an electric car, so the friction brakes are used less and the disc faces rust between stops. Light surface rust often cleans off with a few firm stops. Deep pitting or a lip on the disc edge means replacement. The front discs are ventilated and the rear discs are a different part, so never order one axle's disc for the other. Inspect both axles, then order discs and pads by axle and OE number.

Why does my car go dead and refuse to wake up?

Check the 12 V battery before anything else. Like most electric cars, the Song Plus EV needs its small 12 V battery to power the control units and switch on the high-voltage system, so a flat 12 V battery can stop the car even when the drive battery is charged. Test it with a meter or a battery tester. If it fails, order a replacement by the OE number on the old battery, and check the terminals and earth strap at the same time.

Does the Song Plus EV come with a spare wheel?

No. Chinese specification listings show no spare wheel on any trim, so a puncture is handled with a sealant kit and inflator rather than a wheel change. That makes the tyres worth watching. The tyre size listed on every Chinese trim is 235/50 R19. Previous owners sometimes change wheels, so read the size on the sidewall of the tyres actually fitted, then order tyres or rims to match.

Does the Smart Driving Edition need different front-end parts?

Often, yes. From February 2025 the Smart Driving Edition added BYD's God's Eye driver-assistance system, and depending on trim the car can carry up to 12 surround cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors and 5 radar units. Those sit in the bumpers, grille, mirrors and windscreen area, so the brackets and trim around them can differ from earlier cars. Check the build date on the identification plate, have the system checked after any front-end work, and order each sensor by OE number.

Do parts carry over between the Champion, Glory and 2025 cars?

Mostly, yes. The Glory Edition of 29 February 2024 kept the car's core specification and range unchanged, so parts carry over from the Champion car. The 2025 model of August 2024 brought new 19-inch wheels, an illuminated BYD badge in place of the Build Your Dreams lettering and a new steering wheel, and the Smart Driving Edition of February 2025 added more cameras and radar. Neither update changed the body dimensions. Before ordering wheels, badges, steering-wheel parts or front-end sensors, read the build date on the identification plate.
