BYD Song PLUS Parts

The petrol Song PLUS arrived in September 2020 as a 1.5T dual-clutch SUV and left production for good in March 2022, so nothing in its engine, turbo or seven-speed wet dual-clutch gearbox is shared with a car BYD still builds. Above the floorpan the same shell carries on in the Seal U and Sealion 6, so lamps, glass, doors and running gear stay in current supply. Confirm you are ordering for the petrol car before matching a part.

Symptom Finder: Known Weak Points

What you see or hearCheck first
Shudder or a jerky pull-away from rest Wet dual-clutch fluid level and condition first, then the fluid filter. Rule these out before ordering a clutch pack or control unit, and match parts by OE number.
Gearbox warning light, lost gears or loss of drive Have the fault codes read to find out whether the clutch pack, a solenoid valve, the control unit or a bearing has failed. Order only that part.
Knock from the front over bumps Strut top mounts, control arm bushes and anti-roll bar links. Check each for play before ordering, and replace bushes or arms by side.
Bouncy ride or oil on a damper body The front struts or rear dampers. Replace them in pairs across the axle, and match each by the OE number on the old unit.
Parking brake warning, or a rear brake that will not release The rear caliper and its parking brake motor and connector. Order the caliper for the correct side by OE number.
Engine warning light or rough running Lambda sensors, ignition coils and spark plugs, then the turbo pipework for boost leaks. Match each part to the 1.5-litre turbo engine by OE number.
A new tyre or rim does not match the car Wheel size depends on trim: 235/55 R18, 235/50 R19 or 245/45 R20. Read the sidewall and order to that size.

Most Replaced Parts on the Song PLUS

  1. Control arms and bushingsFront and rear arms and bushes, the usual source of knocks on a 1,560 kg SUV
  2. Timing drive componentsSpecific to the 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine, so never order from hybrid listings
  3. Shock absorbers and strutsFront struts and rear dampers, best replaced in pairs across an axle
  4. Door skins, hinges and check strapsDoor hardware wears with daily use, so match hinges and check straps by oe number

About BYD Song PLUS Parts

The petrol BYD Song PLUS is a five-seat compact SUV. It went on sale in China in September 2020 and was built until March 2022, when BYD stopped making petrol-only cars. It has one driveline: a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 136 kW and 288 Nm, a seven-speed wet dual-clutch gearbox and front-wheel drive. It sits on a 2,765 mm wheelbase, is 4,705 mm long, 1,890 mm wide and 1,680 mm high, and weighs 1,560 kg. For parts, that makes it a conventional petrol car. It needs oil, filters, timing parts, exhaust sensors and gearbox fluid, with MacPherson struts at the front and multi-link suspension at the rear. The Song PLUS DM-i hybrid and Song PLUS EV share its early body but not its engine or gearbox. Every part on this page is listed by its OE number, and matching the number on the old part is the surest way to confirm a fit.

What to know before buying BYD Song PLUS parts

Start by making sure the car is the petrol Song PLUS. The Song PLUS name covers three cars: this petrol model, launched in September 2020, the DM-i plug-in hybrid from March 2021 and the fully electric EV from April 2021. All three have a 2,765 mm wheelbase, and before the 2023 facelift they shared the same body, so size and shape will not tell them apart. A charging socket will, since the petrol car has none.

The driveline is where the three cars part company. The petrol car drives its front wheels through a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine of 136 kW and a seven-speed wet dual-clutch gearbox. The DM-i uses a hybrid engine with an electric drive unit in place of that gearbox, and the EV has no engine at all. Match engine, turbo, timing, fuel, exhaust and gearbox parts only by the OE number on the old part, never by the Song PLUS name. On the gearbox, find out which part has failed before ordering. A fault can come from a clutch pack, a solenoid valve, the electro-hydraulic control unit or a bearing, and none of these can stand in for another.

Check the body as well. In June 2023 the hybrid and electric Song PLUS were facelifted as the Champion Edition, with a restyled front and rear and new headlamps. The petrol car was never facelifted, so bumpers, grilles, headlamps and tail lamps listed for the facelifted cars do not suit it. Parts from early hybrid and electric cars may match, but only the OE number confirms it.

A few things vary from car to car. The lower trims run 235/55 R18 tyres and the higher trims 235/50 R19, and 245/45 R20 is listed for the top trim. Read the size on the tyre sidewall before ordering tyres or rims, and match brake parts by OE number rather than by trim. The front discs are ventilated and the rear discs solid. The parking brake is electronic, so each rear caliper is specific to its side and has its own electrical connection. The headlamps are LED units. For painted panels, order by the colour code on the car rather than by colour name.

The petrol car was built for only 18 months with one engine and one gearbox, and no facelift or mid-life change splits its parts by build date. The OE number on the old part settles every order.

Before You Order: 7 Checks

  1. Look for a charging socket before you order. The petrol Song PLUS has none, so a car with one is a DM-i or EV and needs different driveline parts.
  2. Match the OE number on the part you are replacing to the OE number on the listing, and order only when they agree.
  3. Read the tyre size on the sidewall before ordering tyres, rims or brake parts, because wheel size depends on trim.
  4. Order a rear brake caliper for the correct side, because it carries the electric parking brake motor.
  5. Have the gearbox fault codes read and the fluid checked before ordering a clutch pack, solenoid or control unit.
  6. Skip bumpers, grilles and lamps listed for the facelifted Song PLUS, because the June 2023 facelift restyled both ends.
  7. Order painted panels by the colour code on the car rather than by colour name.

Generations and Facelifts

The Song PLUS belongs to BYD's Song family. It sits above the smaller Song Pro and below the Tang. It went on sale in China in September 2020 as a petrol car only: a five-seat, front-wheel-drive SUV with a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, a seven-speed wet dual-clutch gearbox and a 2,765 mm wheelbase.

The range grew quickly. The DM-i plug-in hybrid joined in March 2021 and the fully electric EV in April 2021. Both used the same body and wheelbase but had entirely different drivelines. From then on, three cars carried the Song PLUS name, and only one of them used the petrol engine and dual-clutch gearbox.

In March 2022 BYD stopped building petrol-only cars, and the petrol Song PLUS ended with them. BYD announced the change on 3 April 2022. It said it would keep producing and supplying parts for its petrol vehicles and keep supporting existing owners. The petrol car never had a facelift, and no change to its engine or gearbox is reported during its 18 months in production.

The hybrid and electric cars carried on. In June 2023 they were facelifted as the Champion Edition, with a restyled front and rear and headlamps in the style of the BYD Seal. Outside China they were later sold as the Seal U and the Sealion 6. None of that applies to the petrol car. For parts, the petrol Song PLUS has one fixed specification. Match driveline parts by OE number, and do not take bumpers or lamps from facelifted cars or their export versions.

BYD Song PLUS Parts: Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make sure a part fits my petrol Song PLUS?

Match the OE number. Every part on this site is listed under the OE number printed on the original part. If the number on the part you are replacing matches the listing, the part fits. That check matters on this car because the Song PLUS name also covers the DM-i hybrid and the EV. Those cars share much of the body but none of the driveline. If the old part is missing or its number cannot be read, send a photo through the quote form and we will reply within 24 hours, usually sooner.

How can I tell the petrol Song PLUS from the DM-i and the EV?

Look for a charging socket. The DM-i hybrid, launched in March 2021, and the EV, launched in April 2021, both charge from a plug, and the petrol car does not. All three have a 2,765 mm wheelbase, and the early cars share the same body, so measuring the car will not separate them. Under the bonnet, the petrol car has a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine driving through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Once you know which car you have, confirm each part by its OE number.

Do body parts from the facelifted Song PLUS fit the petrol car?

No. The June 2023 facelift, known as the Champion Edition, applied only to the hybrid and electric Song PLUS. The petrol car had left production in March 2022. The facelift restyled the front and rear and brought new headlamps, so bumpers, grilles and lamps listed for those cars do not suit the petrol Song PLUS. The same goes for their export versions, sold outside China as the Seal U and the Sealion 6. Order body parts by the OE number on the old part.

Will engine or gearbox parts from a Song PLUS DM-i fit?

Do not assume so. The front-wheel-drive DM-i uses a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre engine and an electric drive unit in place of a conventional gearbox. The all-wheel-drive DM-i does use a turbocharged 1.5-litre engine, but inside a hybrid driveline with electric motors. The petrol car's 136 kW turbo engine and seven-speed wet dual-clutch gearbox are its own. Match engine, turbo, timing, exhaust and gearbox parts only by the OE number on the part you are replacing, and search by that number.

Does it use a wet or a dry dual-clutch gearbox?

Wet. The petrol Song PLUS uses a seven-speed wet dual-clutch gearbox, in which the clutches run in transmission fluid. That fluid, and the filter that keeps it clean, are service items on this car and worth checking before you order any larger gearbox part. The clutch packs, solenoids and control parts are made for a wet unit, so do not swap in parts from a dry-clutch gearbox. Order fluid, filter and internal parts by the OE number on the gearbox or on the old part.

The gearbox is misbehaving. Which part do I need?

Find the fault first. A fault in a wet dual-clutch gearbox can come from the clutch pack, a solenoid valve, the electro-hydraulic control unit or a bearing, and none of these parts can stand in for another. Have the fault codes read and the fluid level and condition checked before you order, because old or low fluid can cause harsh shifts and shudder on its own. The control unit is a poor part to buy on a guess. Once you know which part has failed, order it by its OE number.

Can I still get parts for a car BYD no longer builds?

Yes. BYD stopped building petrol-only cars in March 2022 and announced the change on 3 April 2022. In the same announcement, it said it would keep producing and supplying parts for its petrol vehicles and keep supporting existing owners for the life of their cars. Some body parts may also be shared with the early hybrid and electric Song PLUS, which were built on the same body, but the OE number decides. Search by the number on the old part, or send the part through the quote form if the number is missing.

Was there a facelift or a newer model year?

Not for the petrol car. It went on sale in September 2020 with one engine and one gearbox, and it left production in March 2022 without a facelift. The Song PLUS facelift arrived in June 2023 as the Champion Edition, with a restyled front and rear and new headlamps, and it applied only to the hybrid and electric cars. That means no facelift splits the parts for the petrol car, but parts made for the facelifted cars do not suit it. Match each part by its OE number before ordering.

Which tyre sizes were fitted, and does wheel size affect the brakes?

The lower trims ran 235/55 R18 tyres and the higher trims 235/50 R19, and 245/45 R20 is listed for the top trim, with the same size front and rear. Wheel size depends on trim, so read the size on the tyre sidewall before ordering tyres or rims. Brake parts can also differ between trims, so do not order a disc or pads by the model name alone. Match them by the OE number on the old part, or measure the old disc and send the figures through the quote form.

What does the electric parking brake mean for the rear brakes?

The front discs are ventilated, the rear discs are solid, and the parking brake is electronic, with its motor on the rear calipers. That makes each rear caliper an electrical part as well as a hydraulic one, and the left and right calipers are different parts. Changing the rear pads usually needs a diagnostic tool to put the parking brake into service mode. Order a rear caliper for the correct side, by the OE number on the old one, and check the connector before fitting.

What servicing parts does the petrol Song PLUS need?

The same parts as any turbocharged petrol car. The 1.5-litre engine needs engine oil, an oil filter, an air filter and spark plugs at set intervals, and the cabin filter needs regular changes too. The seven-speed wet dual-clutch gearbox needs its own fluid and filter service, which the electric Song PLUS never needs. Follow the owner's handbook for the intervals, and order each consumable by the OE number on the part you took off the car.

Does the petrol Song PLUS carry a spare wheel?

Yes, a space-saver spare rather than a full-size wheel. It is meant to get the car to a tyre fitter and is not for long distances, so it does not match the 18, 19 or 20-inch wheels fitted to the car. If you are replacing a road wheel, read the size on the sidewall of the tyres already fitted and order to that size. If you need a replacement spare, or its jack and tools, match them by the OE number on the old part.
