BYD G5 Parts

The BYD G5 is a four-door, five-seat compact petrol saloon built at Xi'an, on sale from 16 September 2014 with a further model year in 2015, and it grew out of the SuRui, which is why most of this car's part numbers match that model rather than a G5-only line. What matters for ordering is that one boot badge covers two different engines. Every trim BYD actually advertised was the 1.5T turbo, 154 hp, with a six-speed manual or six-speed dual-clutch, but a naturally aspirated 80 kW version was also declared, paired with a five-speed manual or six-speed dual-clutch. Shell, badge and boot lid are identical between the two, so do not read the engine from the VIN, which shares identifiers across both. Gear count is the fastest way to tell them apart: five speeds means the naturally aspirated car, every other G5 is six-speed. Body, wheelbase, track and tyre size stayed the same for the whole model run, so panels, glass and suspension geometry do not fork by year, only the engine bay does.

Symptom Finder: Known Weak Points

What you see or hearCheck first
Dual-clutch gearbox slow to respond or hesitant between gears Owners have reported this on the G5 automatic. Have the gearbox control unit, its sensors and the clutch pack checked, then order the failed part by OE number.
Keyless entry will not open the doors Replace the key fob battery first, then check the door handle sensors and keyless module. Order each part by the OE number on the old unit.
A rear door will not latch or open properly The door latch and its actuator. Owners have reported faulty rear door latches, so order the latch for the correct door and side.
Knock or clonk from the front over bumps The front strut top mount and bearing, drop links and lower arm bushes. Inspect each one before ordering a complete strut assembly.
Engine warning light with rough running Spark plugs, ignition coils and the lambda sensors. Confirm whether the engine is turbocharged first, since the parts differ.
Brake judder under firm braking The front ventilated discs and pads. Front and rear discs are different parts, so order by axle.
Battery flat after the car stands for a day or two Measure the standing current before buying a battery. A module that stays awake can drain a healthy battery, so find the circuit first.

About BYD G5 Parts

The BYD G5 is a five-seat compact saloon that went on sale in China on 16 September 2014. BYD placed it between the smaller F3 and the larger G6. It is built on a stretched version of the F3 platform, measures 4,700 mm long on a 2,670 mm wheelbase, and drives the front wheels through a 1,497 cc turbocharged petrol engine rated at 113 kW, or 154 hp. Buyers chose a six-speed manual or a six-speed dry dual-clutch gearbox. That makes the G5 a conventional petrol car to maintain. It needs spark plugs, filters, engine sensors and clutch parts, plus the usual brake and suspension wear items for a MacPherson strut front and a torsion beam rear. Production is generally given as 2014 to 2017, so most cars are now old enough to need age-related parts. Every part on this page is listed by its OE number, and matching the number on the old part is the surest way to confirm a replacement fits.

What to know before buying BYD G5 parts

Start by making sure the car is a G5. It is a four-door, five-seat saloon measuring 4,700 mm long, 1,790 mm wide and 1,480 mm tall on a 2,670 mm wheelbase. BYD built it on a stretched version of the F3 platform and placed it between the F3 and the larger G6, and the New SuRui went on sale on the same day as the 2015 G5. Parts from these cars often look alike, but body panels, glass and trim are specific to the G5, so a matching shape tells you nothing. Match the OE number on the old part.

Next, confirm the engine. The G5 was launched with a 1,497 cc turbocharged petrol engine producing 113 kW and 240 Nm, and every trim BYD offered in 2014 and 2015 used it. A naturally aspirated 1.5-litre version of about 80 kW was reported in 2018 and is rare. A turbocharger and intercooler pipework under the bonnet mark the turbo car. Order spark plugs, sensors, hoses and engine mounts for the engine that is actually fitted.

The gearbox splits parts too. Turbo cars came with a six-speed manual, sold as the 1.5TI, or a six-speed dry dual-clutch gearbox, sold as the 1.5TID. Clutch parts, gear selectors, cables and gearbox mounts do not cross between the two, so check the car before ordering.

Dates matter mainly at the front and rear of the car. The 2015 model, on sale from 18 March 2015, brought a chrome twin-bar grille, revised headlamps and new paint colours, while the engine, gearboxes and dimensions stayed the same. A restyled G5 with a larger grille was reported from late 2017. Before ordering a grille, headlamp, bumper or tail lamp, read the build date on the identification plate and compare the part with the one on the car.

A few things vary from car to car. Stability control, a reversing camera and some airbags depended on trim, so check what is fitted before ordering those parts. The brakes are ventilated discs at the front and solid discs at the rear, and the two are not interchangeable. The tyre size is 205/55 R16, and the spare is a full-size wheel of the same size. Front dampers on this page are listed as complete strut assemblies with the top mount and bearing, so compare the listing with what you are replacing. Order painted panels by the colour code on the car.

Before You Order: 7 Checks

  1. Confirm the car is a G5 and not an F3, SuRui or G6. The G5 is a 4,700 mm saloon on a 2,670 mm wheelbase. Then match the OE number on the old part to the listing.
  2. Look under the bonnet for a turbocharger before ordering engine parts, since the rare naturally aspirated G5 takes different parts.
  3. Check whether the car has the manual or the dual-clutch gearbox before ordering clutch, selector or gearbox mount parts.
  4. Read the build date on the identification plate before ordering a grille or headlamp, since the 2015 model changed both.
  5. Read the tyre size on the sidewall, normally 205/55 R16, before ordering tyres or wheels, and remember the full-size spare.
  6. Check what the car actually has before ordering stability control, camera or airbag parts, since equipment varied by trim.
  7. Order painted panels by the colour code on the car rather than by colour name.

Generations and Facelifts

The G5 belongs to BYD's range of F and G petrol saloons. Its predecessor is the G3, and its closest relatives are the F3, whose platform it stretches, and the larger G6. It was first shown at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2014 and went on sale on 16 September 2014. At launch it had the 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, with 113 kW and 240 Nm, and a choice of a six-speed manual or a six-speed dry dual-clutch gearbox. Launch cars had halogen headlamps with LED daytime running lights and an Android-based infotainment screen called CarPad.

The 2015 model went on sale on 18 March 2015, on the same day as the New SuRui. It kept the engine, both gearboxes and the body dimensions. It changed the grille to a chrome twin-bar design, revised the headlamps and added new paint colours. The twin exhaust outlets belong to the New SuRui, not the G5, and the interior details were unchanged. Grilles and headlamps can therefore differ between 2014 and 2015 cars, while the mechanical parts carried over.

In October 2017 the press reported a restyled G5 with a larger grille, a full-width lower intake, reshaped fog lamp surrounds and a small boot spoiler. In March 2018 it reported a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre version of about 80 kW with a dual-clutch gearbox and new tail lamps. We found no confirmation of when that version reached buyers, or in what numbers, and production of the original car is generally given as 2014 to 2017. A hybrid G5 was talked about at launch, but we found no evidence it went on sale. For any late car, read the build date on the identification plate, then match front-end, rear-end and engine parts by OE number.

BYD G5 Parts: Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make sure a part fits my BYD G5?

Match the OE number. Every part on this site is listed under the OE number printed on the original part, and if the number on the part you are replacing matches the listing, the part fits. That matters on the G5 because it shares a platform and many parts with the F3 family, and similar-looking parts often carry different numbers. If the old part is missing or its number is unreadable, send a photo of it through the quote form and we will reply within 24 hours, usually sooner.

Which engine does my G5 have?

Almost certainly the 1,497 cc turbocharged petrol engine, rated at 113 kW and 240 Nm. It was the only engine BYD offered at the 2014 launch and on the 2015 model. A naturally aspirated 1.5-litre version of about 80 kW was reported in 2018, but it is rare. The quickest check is under the bonnet, where the turbo engine has a turbocharger and intercooler pipework. Confirm which engine you have before ordering spark plugs, sensors, hoses or engine mounts, then match each part by OE number.

Manual or dual-clutch: does it change the parts I need?

Yes, for anything on the driveline. The turbo G5 came with a six-speed manual, sold as the 1.5TI, or a six-speed dry dual-clutch gearbox, sold as the 1.5TID. Clutch parts, gearbox mounts and the gear selector with its cables or control hardware are different on the two cars. Check the gear lever and the pedals in the car rather than relying on what a previous owner told you. Once you know which gearbox is fitted, order by the OE number on the part you are replacing.

My dual-clutch G5 hesitates or shifts late. What should I look at?

Owners have reported slow and hesitant shifting on the G5 automatic. The gearbox is a six-speed dry dual-clutch unit, which runs the odd and even gears on separate clutches, so the pattern of the fault helps. If only the odd or only the even gears misbehave, the clutch on that side is the first suspect. If shifting is slow across every gear, check the gearbox control unit, its sensors and the wiring before the clutch pack. Have the fault diagnosed, then order the failed part by its OE number.

Do BYD F3 or SuRui parts fit the G5?

Some do and many do not. The G5 is built on a stretched version of the F3 platform, and the New SuRui went on sale alongside the 2015 G5, so mechanical parts can look very similar across the three. The G5's body is longer, at 4,700 mm, and its panels, glass and trim are its own. Do not assume a part fits because it came from a related car. Compare the OE number on the old part with the number on the listing, and order only when they match.

Is the G5 a smaller version of the G6?

Not in parts terms. The G6 is the larger saloon that sat above the G5 in BYD's range, and the G5 was introduced to fill the gap between the F3 and the G6. The two cars have different bodies and dimensions, so panels, glass, lamps and trim do not cross over. Some engine parts may be shared where the same engine family is used, but that has to be confirmed part by part. Check the OE number on the part you are replacing against the listing before you order.

What changed with the 2015 model?

The 2015 model went on sale on 18 March 2015. BYD kept the 1.5-litre turbo engine, both six-speed gearboxes and the body dimensions, and changed the look with a chrome twin-bar grille, revised headlamps and new paint colours. The interior details were unchanged. That means grilles and headlamps can differ between 2014 and 2015 cars, while the mechanical parts carried over. Read the build date on the identification plate, then match the part by OE number.

Was there a later facelift?

A restyled G5 was reported in October 2017, with a larger grille, a full-width lower intake, reshaped fog lamp surrounds and a small boot spoiler. In March 2018 a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre version with a dual-clutch gearbox and new tail lamps was reported. We have not found confirmation of how widely these cars were sold. If your G5 has the larger grille, treat its lamps, bumpers and grille as different parts from those on 2014 and 2015 cars, and order each one by OE number.

What tyre size does the G5 use, and does it carry a spare?

The G5 runs 205/55 R16 tyres, and launch cars were fitted with Michelin tyres. The spare is a full-size wheel of the same size, so a replacement tyre or rim can also serve as the spare. Read the size on the sidewall before ordering, since a previous owner may have changed the wheels, and replace tyres in axle pairs. If you are ordering a wheel, match the rim by OE number rather than by diameter alone.

What brakes does the G5 use?

Ventilated discs at the front and solid discs at the rear, with pads to suit each. Front and rear discs are different parts, so order them by axle and never fit one in place of the other. Judder under braking usually points to the front discs, which do most of the work, while a squeal can come from worn pads at either end. Measure disc thickness against the minimum marked on the disc, then order discs and pads by the OE number for that axle.

Does my G5 have stability control and curtain airbags?

Not every car is equipped the same way. Road tests of the 2014 and 2015 cars describe stability control and traction control, and some trims had a panoramic reversing camera, but equipment varied by trim. Check the car itself before ordering. Look for a stability control switch or warning lamp, and look for airbag markings on the roof pillars or headlining. Then order the module, sensor or trim piece by the OE number on the part that is fitted.

My keyless entry or a door lock has stopped working. What should I order?

Owners have reported keyless entry faults and faulty door latches on the G5, including rear door latches. Start with the simplest cause by replacing the key fob battery and trying the physical key. If one door still will not open or lock, the latch or its actuator in that door is the likely fault. Each door takes its own part, so order by position and side. If no door responds, check the keyless module, its wiring and fuses before replacing latches, and match every part by OE number.
