BYD Tang DM-p Parts

The BYD Tang DM-p is the four-wheel-drive performance grade of the second-generation Tang, launched August 2022 and closed out with the Glory Edition in April 2024, offered in five, six or seven seats. Under the badge it runs the Tang DM-i's own 1.5T engine at 102 kW, with none of its 360 kW combined output coming from that engine. The push comes entirely from a 160 kW front motor and a 200 kW rear motor driving through an E-CVT, so filters, plugs and engine ancillaries cross straight over from the DM-i, while the brake, motor and battery lines do not. Confirm seat count and wheel size against the edition before ordering, as this model was never sold in right-hand drive.

Symptom Finder: Known Weak Points

What you see or hearCheck first
Headlamp or tail lamp damaged and the replacement looks different The lamps changed in August 2023 and the headlamps again in April 2024. Read the build date on the identification plate and order by the OE number on the old lamp.
Puncture with no spare wheel on board The car carries a repair kit, not a spare. Read the tyre size on the sidewall, 265/45 R21 or 255/50 R20, and order a matching tyre.
Brake squeal, judder or uneven pedal feel Pads and the ventilated discs front and rear. Order pads to suit the caliper fitted, since caliper finish varies by edition, and match by OE number.
Engine warning light while the petrol engine is running Start with the lambda and emission sensors on the 1.5-litre turbo engine, the usual first suspects on any petrol engine, then match by OE number.
Coolant warning or a falling coolant level Hoses, the expansion tank and the electric coolant pumps. The car cools an engine, a battery and two motors, so trace the leak to its circuit before ordering.
Parking sensor warning after a minor knock The bumper sensors and their brackets. A bent bracket can trigger the warning on its own, so check it before replacing the sensor.

About BYD Tang DM-p Parts

The BYD Tang DM-p is the four-wheel-drive performance version of the second-generation Tang plug-in hybrid, launched in China on 25 August 2022. It shares its 4,870 mm body and 2,820 mm wheelbase with the front-wheel-drive Tang DM-i and the all-electric Tang EV. A 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine works with a 160 kW front motor, and a separate 200 kW motor drives the rear axle. A 45.8 kWh Blade battery powers both motors. That layout means the car needs two kinds of parts. It needs the oil, filters, fuel system and emission sensors of a petrol engine, and the motors, battery cooling and high-voltage hardware of an electric car, including a rear drive unit the DM-i does not have. Lamps, bumpers and trim changed at each update. Every part on this page is listed by its OE number, and matching that number is the surest way to confirm a part fits.

What to know before buying BYD Tang DM-p parts

Start by making sure the car is a Tang DM-p. It shares its 4,870 mm body and 2,820 mm wheelbase with the Tang DM-i and the Tang EV, so a tape measure will not tell them apart. The drive layout will. The DM-p has a petrol engine and drives all four wheels, with its own electric motor on the rear axle. The DM-i also has a petrol engine but drives the front wheels only, and the EV has no engine and no fuel filler.

The DM-p and DM-i overlap most at the engine. Both use a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, and the DM-p gets its pace from its motors, 160 kW at the front and 200 kW at the rear, rather than from a larger engine. Engine service parts are often common to both cars, but confirm each one by OE number. The rear drive unit, its mounts, wiring and cooling lines belong to the DM-p alone, and there is no propshaft or transfer case to look for. The 45.8 kWh battery is also specific to the DM-p. The DM-i was sold with different battery sizes, so do not swap battery or high-voltage parts between the two.

Wheels and tyres vary from car to car. Two sizes appear across the range, 265/45 R21 and 255/50 R20, and published sources disagree on which edition carries which. Read the size on the sidewall before ordering tyres or rims. The car runs the same size front and rear, so match both axles. There is no spare wheel, only a repair kit. The brakes use ventilated discs at both ends, and the caliper finish varies by edition, with red on the Champion and yellow on the War-God. Order calipers by the OE number on the old unit.

On this car, dates decide which parts fit. The Champion and War-God editions of 31 August 2023 brought new headlamps, a full-width tail lamp, a rear spoiler carrying the third brake light and darker rear bumper trim. The Glory Edition of 22 April 2024 changed the front end and headlamps again. Before ordering lamps, bumpers, trim or dampers, read the build date on the identification plate. Check whether the car has six or seven seats before ordering seat or cabin parts, and order painted panels by the colour code on the car.

Before You Order: 7 Checks

  1. The Tang DM-p drives all four wheels and the Tang DM-i on the same body drives only the front wheels, so confirm the drive layout before you order.
  2. Match the OE number on the part you are replacing to the OE number on the listing before you order.
  3. Both 265/45 R21 and 255/50 R20 appear across the range, so read the tyre size on the sidewall before ordering tyres or rims.
  4. The car changed in August 2023 and April 2024, so read the build date on the identification plate before ordering headlamps, tail lamps, bumpers or trim.
  5. The car was built with six or seven seats, so count the seats before ordering seat or cabin trim.
  6. For painted panels, give the colour code on the car rather than the colour name.
  7. The Tang DM-i has no rear motor, so order rear drive unit parts from Tang DM-p listings only.

Generations and Facelifts

The Tang DM-p belongs to the second-generation BYD Tang, the large SUV introduced in 2018. By 2022 that body was sold as the front-wheel-drive Tang DM-i plug-in hybrid and the all-electric Tang EV. The DM-p went on sale on 25 August 2022 in three trims as the performance model of the range. It added a 200 kW rear motor for four-wheel drive, which brought the 0 to 100 km/h time down to 4.3 seconds. It came as a seven-seater, with six seats as an option.

The first update came on 31 August 2023, when the Champion and War-God editions replaced the launch trims. The body shape stayed the same, but the lights and the rear of the car changed. The update brought three-tier matrix LED headlamps with light strips, a full-width tail lamp, a rear spoiler carrying the third brake light and blacked-out rear bumper trim. The caliper colour now showed the edition, red on the Champion and yellow on the War-God. Match lamps and rear trim to these later cars by OE number, not by listings for the launch cars.

On 22 April 2024 the Glory Edition and a 2024 War-God followed with a new front design, which BYD calls the Dragon Face, and sharper headlamps. The drive layout and the 45.8 kWh battery carried over, so the front bumper, grille and headlamps are the parts most likely to differ from 2023 cars.

In August 2026 BYD showed a third-generation Tang, a larger five-seat electric car due on sale in the fourth quarter of 2026. It is a different car from the DM-p. For any second-generation car, read the build date on the identification plate before ordering lamps, bumpers or trim.

BYD Tang DM-p Parts: Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make sure a part fits my BYD Tang DM-p?

Match the OE number. Every part on this site is listed under the OE number printed on the original part. If the number on the part you are replacing matches the listing, the part fits. That matters on the Tang DM-p because it shares its body with the Tang DM-i and Tang EV, and many parts look alike across the three while differing underneath. If the old part is missing or its number cannot be read, send a photo through the quote form and we will reply within 24 hours, usually sooner.

How can I tell a Tang DM-p from a Tang DM-i or Tang EV?

Look at which wheels the car drives. The Tang DM-p has a petrol engine and drives all four wheels, with a separate electric motor on the rear axle. The Tang DM-i also has a petrol engine but drives the front wheels only. The Tang EV has no engine and no fuel filler. All three share a 4,870 mm body and a 2,820 mm wheelbase, so a tape measure will not separate them. Check the badge on the tailgate and the drive layout, then confirm each part by OE number.

Does the Tang DM-p share engine parts with the Tang DM-i?

Largely, yes. Both use a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, and most of the DM-p's performance comes from its electric motors rather than from the engine. Oil filters, air filters, spark plugs and similar service parts are often common to both cars. The overlap ends at the engine bay. The rear drive unit, the battery pack and the four-wheel-drive hardware belong to the DM-p alone. Check the OE number on the old filter or sensor before ordering, and do not assume a DM-i listing will fit.

Does the Tang DM-p have a propshaft to the rear axle?

No. The rear wheels are driven by their own 200 kW electric motor, so there is no propshaft down the tunnel and no transfer case to service. At the front, a 160 kW motor works with the petrol engine. The rear drive unit, its mounts, its wiring and its cooling lines are specific to the four-wheel-drive car, and the front-wheel-drive Tang DM-i does not have them. When you need a rear-axle part, order it by the OE number on the unit fitted to the car.

What tyre size does the Tang DM-p use?

Two sizes appear across the range, 265/45 R21 and 255/50 R20. Published sources disagree on which edition carries which. The Champion and War-God editions of August 2023 have been listed with both, so the edition name alone is not a safe guide. Each car runs the same size on both axles, so tyres are never staggered front to rear. Read the size on the sidewall of the tyres already fitted before you order tyres or rims, and order the same size for all four corners.

Does the Tang DM-p carry a spare wheel?

No spare wheel is listed for the Tang DM-p. The car carries a tyre repair kit instead, so a tyre that cannot be sealed needs replacing rather than a quick wheel change at the roadside. The car runs either 265/45 R21 or 255/50 R20, so it pays to know which size is fitted before a puncture happens. Read the size on the sidewall now, and if the repair kit has been used, replace its sealant before the car goes back on the road.

What changed with the Champion and War-God editions in August 2023?

Both went on sale on 31 August 2023 and changed the lights and the rear of the car. The headlamps moved to a three-tier matrix LED design with light strips. At the back, the car gained a full-width tail lamp, a rear spoiler with the third brake light and blacked-out rear bumper trim. The Champion has red brake calipers and the War-God yellow ones. Do not assume headlamps, tail lamps or rear trim from a 2022 car will fit. Read the build date on the identification plate before ordering.

What changed with the Glory Edition in April 2024?

The Glory Edition and a 2024 War-God went on sale on 22 April 2024 with a new front end, which BYD calls the Dragon Face, and sharper headlamps. The full-width tail lamp stayed and new paint colours were added. The drive layout and the 45.8 kWh battery carried over. For parts, the front bumper, grille and headlamps are the pieces most likely to differ from earlier cars. Read the build date on the identification plate, and order painted panels by the colour code on the car.

What brakes does the Tang DM-p use?

Ventilated discs at both ends, on a car that weighs about 2,445 kg at the kerb. The caliper finish has changed over the years. The Champion edition has red calipers and the War-God yellow ones, so two cars from the same year may not carry the same caliper. Order pads to suit the disc and caliper actually fitted rather than the model name. Before you order a caliper, read the OE number on the old one and use it to find the matching listing.

Is the Tang DM-p a six-seater or a seven-seater?

It can be either. At launch it came as a seven-seater, with a six-seat layout available as an option. From August 2023 the Champion edition was offered with six or seven seats, and the War-God came with seven only. Six-seat cars have two individual middle-row seats, and on later six-seat versions those seats gained ventilation, heating and massage. Check the seat layout in the car before ordering seats, seat trim or middle-row parts, and match each part by its OE number.

Is the new third-generation Tang the same car?

No. BYD showed a third-generation Tang in August 2026, with sales due to start in the fourth quarter of that year. It is a larger five-seat car, 5,045 mm long on a 2,950 mm wheelbase, and the version shown is fully electric with a single motor. The Tang DM-p belongs to the second-generation family on a 4,870 mm body. Parts listed for the new car are not a guide to a DM-p. Confirm the body length and drive layout before you order.

It is a plug-in hybrid. Does the Tang DM-p still need regular servicing?

Yes. The 1.5-litre turbocharged engine needs engine oil, an oil filter, an air filter and spark plugs. It also has the lambda and emission sensors of any petrol engine, and it draws fuel from a 53 litre tank. The 45.8 kWh battery and the two motors add coolant circuits and electric pumps that need checking too. Follow the engine's own service schedule rather than treating the car as fully electric. Order filters and sensors by the OE number on the parts you remove.

Safety Recalls Affecting This Model

No recall affects the BYD Tang DM-p. Two 2022 campaigns covering the battery tray name only 2021 Tang DM-i trims and cover cars built up to April 2022, four months before DM-p production started in August 2022. A 2025 campaign covering the drive motor controller reaches only first-generation cars built between 2015 and 2017, a different bodyshell on a different stem. No Tang DM-p model code appears in any campaign.

If you have been told this model was recalled, check the notice for the model and build date named on it rather than the model name alone, since campaigns against the Tang DM-i or the earlier Tang DM do not carry across to this car.
